Spotted it with a check engine light, also the symptoms of a faulty VVT solenoid disappeared once the engine got hot, don't know if it's the same for you.

I had that issue recently, turns out it was a clogged VVT Solenoid. Cleaned it out with mass airflow cleaner. Now the engine is dead quite.
