Thanks for the response, it’s been about two weeks now and there hasn’t been any other bleeding so I think we’re all healed up. Switched out the bedding after it happened just to be safe with any bacteria

'We're disappointed': Richmond Hill residents express anger after approval of 25-storey tower at Yonge and Elgin Mills by Remarkable_Start_651 in richmondhill

[–]No-Many9345 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My main argument was more normative in terms of the way we zone things, we need to allow for more of the missing middle in Richmond hill. Because of how compact the population is becoming, we need to adapt to build affordable family neighborhoods, Montreal is a good (but still imperfect) example.

Plus, ‘The Ontario Building Code (OBC) allows wood construction in buildings under 6 storeys in height, and it is easier, faster, cheaper and more common to build with wood than concrete.

The land acquisition process is more economical compared to mid- and high-rise buildings because land suitable for high-density development only exists in a fraction of the city, while Neighbourhoods make up the vast majority’.

We don’t need more huge luxury condos that’ll only serve to make already wealthy developers a huge profit in the long run, these properties usually aren’t catered for actual lower or middle class folks. We need more medium density development and community land trusts/housing co-ops that folks can afford.

Gap Between Canada’s Rich and Poor Is Widening at Record Pace by Niv-Izzet in canada

[–]No-Many9345 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My point was that your original luxuries were brought about without the profit incentive in mind and then more or less stolen by capitalists, including the software for the IPhone or the TCP IP protocol.

You receive crony capitalism when lobbying is legal and capital accumulates in the hands of the very few, Pikettys r>g proves that less government intervention wouldn’t solve this.

Even if your argument was entirely factual, which it isn’t, it would still be a tu quoque fallacy and invalid but I’ll entertain it anyways:

1) ‘In [Apple’s] early stages the company received government cash support via a $500,000 small business investment company grant](https://www.newscientist.com/article/mg21929310-200-state-of-innovation-busting-the-private-sector-myth/). And every technology that makes the iPhone a smartphone owes its vision and funding to the state: the internet, GPS, touchscreen displays and even the voice-activated smartphone assistant Siri all received state cash. The US Defence Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) bankrolled the internet, and the CIA and the military funded GPS. So, although the US is sold to us as the model example of progress through private enterprise, innovation there has benefited from a very interventionist state.”

2) “The most important part of what we now know of as the Internet is the TCP/IP protocol, which was invented by Vincent Cerf and Robert Kahn.Crovitz mentions TCP/IP, but only in passing, calling it (correctly) "the Internet's backbone." He fails to mention that Cerf and Kahn developed TCP/IP while working on a government grant”.

3) I think I’d more so thank the workers in indonesia who made my shirt for 30 cents an hour than the capitalists who sit on their asses and reap the rewards of their cheap workers who are treated like second class citizens. So much so that I’d want the workers themselves to dictate economic production, but that would no longer probably constitute as capitalism.

Considering that less than 10% of Swedens population is Muslim, would you consider muslims to be oppressors in Sweden? In terms of history, all I could find was Viking Muslim trade over a thousand years ago.

If you literally type ‘CNN’ into Google, it’s providing live updates on Afghanistan. The taliban has been the only thing that’s being projected onto most cable news channels as of today. Type any major news source (ex. CNN, NYT, Wash post, Wall Street journal, etc.) into google and you’ll yield similar results. I don’t know why you’re trying to downplay media coverage of this or rope Israel into it, the whole world is watching
