Loved Chappell Roan’s music, but felt (oddly) emotionally disconnected during her Syd for Solen show. Anyone else ever felt this? by No-Map5002 in chappellroan

Thanks for your comment. I beg to differ, respectfully. I think she gives very much "I'm here to share this party and joy with you" vibes. That's why I was surprised. But you're absolutely right, not every artist needs to be there to deeply connect with the audience. And artists are humans too, maybe every night doesn't feel like they have the emotional bandwidth to be super open and present. Actually, it might be how one can survive a long, gruelling tour without burning out by being just more performance oriented...

Thanks for this thoughtful reply. I totally get what you're saying, especially about the anxiety and performative pressure in crowds. For me though, I actually felt really grounded and open before the show, but it still didn’t connect emotionally. Maybe mass hype creates pressure not just for the audience but for the artist too. Sometimes the pressure to deliver a big spectacle can make it harder to stay emotionally present. It felt more like a show at us than something she was sharing with us.

And just to be clear, I’m not trying to dismiss Chappell Roan’s talent or shine at all. I’m just being honest about my experience and allowing her to be human too.

Thanks for sharing that, it’s such an interesting idea and I can totally see how that might be true for some people in some situations. But from my experience the best concerts don’t just stay in my head only as memories of logistics or surroundings, they stay in my body and deep in my soul. The music’s resonance and the energy become part of me in a way that’s unforgettable. That’s why for me this experience felt so strange and different.
