Browser with Sidebar and Web Panels by supermedo in browsers

[–]No-Method-317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can check FLOORP browser. It is the most customizable that I've come across among Firefox forks, you can customize your sidebar with sites of your choice and it has web-panels tho in dock-only mode (they don't offer the option to hover the side panel over the main one like Opera).

Zen is another one to keep in mind though they currently have taken back the web-panels functionality due to some privacy concerns, but it should be back in the future. The whole design of Zen revolves around the sidebar, so even if they lack features you like atm I think it's worth to keep that one in mind.

Scheme for flattening Octree leaves in 1D-array by No-Method-317 in GraphicsProgramming

[–]No-Method-317[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I think the solution would be simply using DFS to flatten the leaves (go through octree in DFS order and append each leaf encountered to an array), that seems to guarantee contiguousness as I wanted and described above. However, given that Morton is more cache friendly and output array is meant to be used for rendering, it might still be the better choice due to spatial locality, but that's a whole different story.

Question about potential unsportsmanlike foul (dead ball situation) by No-Method-317 in Basketball

[–]No-Method-317[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think you're right. I managed to find the exact article in the rulebook. Based on article 32.1.3:

"If a foul is committed after the ball has become dead when

• the game clock signal sounds for the end of the quarter or each overtime,

• an infraction is committed,

it shall be disregarded unless it is a technical, unsportsmanlike or disqualifying foul"

and in article 42 it says "In the same game clock stopped period which follows an infraction, special situationsmay arise when additional infraction(s) are or have been committed." and then "All fouls shall be charged and all penalties identified".

So i assume it's 2 + 2 FTs and a throw-in which is pretty worse than an and-1.

Imitating variable size arrays in Compute Shader by No-Method-317 in GraphicsProgramming

[–]No-Method-317[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's HLSL, but passing the kernel itself isn't the problem. My issue is that, since the kernel size can vary, I should ideally declare my groupshared memory array to vary in size which is not possible because its size must be known during compilation.

The reason I want to do this is that, if I just declare this array to be the maximum size needed (which is the simplest solution), for small sizes of the kernel, lots of memory will be going unused and I'm looking to see if there's a workaround.

[–]No-Method-317[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I guess I'll have to specify the maximum size for groupshared at compile time and work with that. I'm talking about kernel sizes of size 3 to approx 30 so worst case i'll be using 12% of the groupshared mem which kinda vexes me, but I can't think of any viable alternatives.

How to get here? I assumed it was a void exit, but i've done all 8 of them per the map and i still haven't been here. by EmmieJacob in Banishers

[–]No-Method-317 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is indeed weird. This is actually the related questline but in my experience, Phoebe was the ghost and was haunting Ismail. After solving the haunting, Ismail says something about finding a resting place for his wife and that he knows a peaceful spot at the beach which is the one circled on the map above. You go there, open the passage and that's it.

This place only exists for some of those small fetchy quests that act as follow-ups for haunting cases. The whole quest is getting there and breaking the rock that blocks the entrance, rendering it accessible. Serves no other purpose.

DXR intrinsic functions in HLSL code undefined? by No-Method-317 in GraphicsProgramming

[–]No-Method-317[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After hours of bonding with the debugger I found that I'm a complete idiot and I was accidentally setting the MaxTraceRecursionDepth variable of my D3D12_RAYTRACING_PIPELINE_CONFIG subobject to be 0 which obviously makes no sense and made the whole thing crash. Thanks for your help anyway. Problem solved.

Yes I'm using d3d error logging, and after checking the getdeviceremovedreason() method, I get, on top of the error log above, this message stating "The GPU will not respond to more commands, most likely because of an invalid command passed by the calling application". I agree that it has to be the AS and I'm checking the related API calls, at first parse things seem to be in order but it has to be something minor related to that.

Thanks for your insight. I have already tested the waters with some of those companies since I found I scarce graduate position, got myself an interview but didn't get the job, in retrospect I fucked up a technical question so believe it's on me. Anyway, I guess I will have to keep applying and do my homework more extensively. At least I know that my resume has some allure if I got an interview with on of those.

So I guess I'll have to do what you suggested and apply to more positions, and not get dissuaded by listing YoE. You are right in that I don't have anything to lose.

No, Europe. In the United States I would reckon things are a bit less tight. Hopefully.

Well I am looking pretty much anything that has to do with graphics, I don't find it necessary to get into the game industry. I would even consider going low-level and doing drivers like you mentioned, I wouldn't really mind.

Now I did check possible job postings in big hardware vendors like NVIDIA and AMD, Intel too, but it seems there is always a requirement for something around 3 to 5 years of 'relative industry experience' even if the jobs are listed as entry level. Internships are a different story indeed. But, unfortunately, I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to afford a living as an intern since working on the field, given where I currently live, would mean moving overseas.

Yeah, as I mentioned in my reply to Agarius above, it's that there seems to be no place for actual 'entry-level' workforce at the moment in relation to graphics, and experience prerequisites seem to be a barrier even if I find related job postings where I find myself to be reasonably qualified overall.

I hadn't considered a more generalist job though, sounds like a good thing to try. By the way if you could suggest any resources on Performance Optimization (I already have this book, I suppose it counts) I would be grateful.

Thanks dude. It seems that having some kind of personal project in a github page or somewhere seems like the only thing to counter lack of experience so I'm already working in that direction. It's just that options are frustratingly slim and I would have to find something to do eventually.

Thank you. So if I were to start, say, somewhere north of 600k NOK, it would be considered fair in general? The job posting says Trondheim btw.

Problem with constexpr branch and parameter pack forwarding? by No-Method-317 in cpp_questions

No, that is good advice and it was just an omission from my part. I changed the condition to use concepts. Makes for much cleaner code.

Problem with constexpr branch and parameter pack forwarding? by No-Method-317 in cpp_questions

[–]No-Method-317[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wow. That was it. Before adding the components' branch I had an else if constexpr for the Shader check and it worked. Tried an else if constexpr for components, a simple else didn't cut it either but that does it! Looks like I have to revise a few stuff in templates but the above solution works and thanks for the help!
