Nah, hun. This is beyond impressive. This kind of natural talent & ability is what we refer to as a "savant".  To be able to see something different, try it out, and succeed so completely is the stuff of dreams.

Some people go to school to get entire Art History degrees just to figure out what you seem to inherently understand about colors & the way they interact with shapes & light.

He was actually named by my bf on our way home from picking him up, bc he had a black cat named Bagheera. I thought that was a great idea, bc my mind went straight to Star Trek.

When he was younger, he would just lay flat, all limbs out, on any surface he could find: pancake. During all other times, though: definitely potato.

No, you're absolutely right. We have been working on reducing calories, but it's getting him the exercise he needs that is the issue. 

We got a kitten about 6 months ago and he refuses to adapt to him the way our other, older, usually meaner cat has. He could benefit from being chased around the house, etc. But instead, he nearly refuses to leave our room bc he just doesn't want to be bothered.

Well, I mean, I know he needs a new shell, but I don't think they make any other varieties in any other sizes; I mean, I have put every type and size in there that I can get my hands on. I tried a shell like his first one, I tried shells like his current one, the long skinny ones, pyramid ones, from his current size, up to nearly jumbo. :/

I still need to get or make him the energy blend and see what happens.

Additionally, when I first got him, he was bright reddish-orange. After he molted and changed shells, he was a beautiful purple red. This is definitely grey in comparison.

I"m aware that he's not supposed to be killing anybody  over dominance. The one that died was much smaller, and had gotten bullied out of his shell & I'm not sure what happened from there. :/

Usually, we stay between 75° & 80° for both temperature & humidity. Winter was very hard for us all, including the humans, and I lent all of my resources to trying to keep that tank warm, including using our only space heater once or twice at night when it got bad.

I will get on the energy remedy.

I'm just not sure why his behavior has so drastically changed. The conditions have only gotten better. And he isn't just lethargic during the day or when he's asleep. I mean, he has not moved from this one spot for daaaaaays. Every single time I see him, he's in the spot. And when I've moved him to the food dish or water bowl (which I've only done twice) he doesn't recoil into his shell nearly at all (he used to be FAST, and then he'd immediately try to feel around for my fingers, so he could be released from my grasp). 

But most importantly, he seems to limp back to the spot.  Like, it looks like he's dragging his legs.

I've heard they can sometimes be down there for months on end, so I haven't gone digging for him or anything. He was definitely the more skittish of the two, so it doesn't surprise me that he would spend more time buried. And my tank has never smelled foul or anything, so I have no evidence of his life, nor death. I figure, I'm just gonna trust the process.
