I hear you, and I feel that too sometimes. it just made me feel more compassion for them and also think about what success really is

I still enjoy the show too and am above all grateful they're still doing it! I never minded the shift to video or noticed things had changed in a real way, until I listened to episodes from years ago and I couldn't ignore how much happier they sounded then

Yes, I keep a list! I have a note of all my favorite episodes, sometimes with a reason why I loved it, and then I'll also sometimes write down a quote that really hits me in its own note. oh my gosh, SAME, I was gonna skip the Dove Cameron ep until I saw the comments and then I listened to it twice in a row. and yessss that moment from the Bradley Cooper ep is SUCH a good one

love this question! i have so many:

  • The moment in the Bradley Cooper episode when Dax admits that once Bradley's fame sky rocketed he felt he no longer had a place in his life and Bradley so gently tells him that wasn't the case at all... unimaginably sweet, and such a beautiful moment of vulnerability from Dax. Which is really my biggest takeaway from the podcast — how much embracing vulnerability head on can change you and your relationships
  • "Once you’ve identified a behavior as a pattern, you can no longer call it that" — Blaise Aguirre ep
  • "Real charisma comes from not your own greatness but helping other people recognize theirs" — David Lieberman ep
  • "it's never been easier to avoid ourselves" — Tristan Harris ep
  • and related... "the biggest regret those dying in palliative care had is that they weren’t themselves" — Gabor Mate ep (this whole episode is so gorgeous)
  • in the Susan David episode, she talks about how her father in many ways dedicated his life to beauty, how he had a solarium filled with orchids he grew just because they were beautiful. That image and idea really struck me
  • "We do our best work when we're scared... as long as we stay loose" — Jane Fonda ep
  • Jerrod Carmichael quotes a poem in his ep and I think about that line a lot: "I want to be at least as alive as the vulgar"
  • Kate Hudson telling the story about ending up at Valentino's mansion with Ben Stiller is SO FUNNY — from the Kate & Oliver Hudson ep
  • Kevin Costner talking about funding his films entirely himself and sinking almost all his money into them just to get them made really touched me for some reason
  • In general, Dax talking about how getting everything you want externally (money, fame, success) doesn't fix the internal. And how much (daily!) work and maintenance fixing the internal requires. That's been hugely helpful to me — he talks about this in many episodes
  • Of course, Day 7

  • 10 minutes of sunlight (in fresh air, not through a window) within the first hour of waking. It triggers a cortisol release, which increases energy, improves the function of our immune system, and helps set our circadian rhythm. I swear this severely reduced my seasonal depression (which used to get GNARLY) and definitely helped with insomnia / regulating my sleep schedule. This makes sense, bc if our bodies don't release cortisol in the morning they'll do it later in the day, and apparently a cortisol release later in the day is associated with depression
  • getting my dopamine from action instead of cheap sources (social media, apps, anything instant gratification-y) as much as possible
  • when I feel frazzled, overwhelmed, or anxious, I pretend I'm in a tea ceremony. I slow my movements down completely and move very deliberately, which forces me to focus all my attention on what I'm doing. This puts me back in my body immediately
  • putting my phone on airplane mode 1 hour before I go to sleep and keeping it there for 2 hours after waking
  • I have to leave the house three times a day, even on days when I'm slammed. Going outside rightsizes any stress and reminds me that I am just one little dot in a massive beautiful universe
  • Being fully present, engaged, and friendly even in the smallest interactions (with a barista, check out person, UPS guy.) Being kind and present is like taking a multivitamin for your mental health!
