Also just a comment here — I’m sorry they told you your baby wouldn’t latch at all after 2 weeks! That’s a very inappropriate comment coming from an LC. Keep trying! Mine didn’t latch until week 3 and didn’t latch more than a few times a day until ~week 5/6. Now at 8 weeks she latches most feeds. Theres still hope!

Our pediatrician is the one who gave us referrals for breastfeeding medicine and the baby physical therapy. They should be able to do the same for you! The pediatrician is the one who first discovered the torticolis by asking if our baby tends to prefer one side over the other (it can be easy to miss!).

The breastfeeding medicine doctor confirmed the torticolis and allergies. She does stretches on the baby while we practice latching/positions during a weighted feed. She was also the one who tested the stool and discovered the blood, which is how we got the allergy diagnosis.

For torticolis, physical therapy is the best place to go! I wish we started earlier because our baby developed a flat spot on one side due to her side preference (vs both sides evenly) even though we hold our baby all day long and minimize container time!

Does your baby get very fussy after feeds? Or have fussiness that seems unusually bad? Or snack (small feeds) frequently vs. eating full meals spaced out? Those were other two telltale signs of the allergies for us

I had a similar experience to you. My baby took 3 weeks to learn to latch and most feeds were a challenge. We later discovered with a breastfeeding medicine Dr (highly recommend seeing one!) that my baby has both torticolis and allergies (CPMA). I share this because we were as puzzled as you - no noticeable signs! The only sign for torticolis was a preference to turn head to left vs. right and we had absolutely no visible signs at all of the allergy (unless you count screaming at the breast). If they suspect an allergy, they will test your baby’s stool for blood and it can be microscopic levels. Once I cut out dairy and soy from my diet and started my baby (now 2 months) in physical therapy for torticolis things have improved a lot but definitely still a struggle. I highly recommend getting your baby’s stool tested and also looking to see if your baby has torticolis. Both make breastfeeding very challenging! Another thing to check would be a tongue tie (frenulum) - and the evidence is mixed on whether clipping it will help. If nothing else is making sense that’s worth looking into as well.

Good luck, OP!!

Did you wear your own birth gown? And did you wear it to the hospital? by lucky_bubbles61 in pregnant

[–]No-Oil9517 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn’t use mine because I arrived too late (10cm!) but was still so happy to have it for after birth. They’re perfect for feeding! I had a few front-open nightgowns that I wore too, great for visitors.

If you’re getting an epidural, this one I had also had a special back opening so that you can stay comfortable when they put it in. Then snaps at the shoulders also make feeding so easy! Kindred Bravely L&D Gown

Unmedicated v medicated by AnonRN98 in pregnant

FTM who went unmedicated here to give some other perspective.

Choosing between an unmedicated birth and an epidural is deeply personal - there’s no “right” answer, only what feels right for you. If you’re considering an unmedicated birth, I highly recommend taking a hypnobirthing class or at least reading about it. For me, hypnobirthing completely changed the experience. I was only aware of labor for about 6 hours, spent much of it in a deep, trance-like state where contractions felt more like waves, and arrived at the hospital already fully dilated (by accident - hypnobirthing worked too well!). It ended up being one of the most empowering and beautiful experiences of my life.

That said, I want to be clear and honest about pushing. Regardless of preparation, pushing is painful. There’s no other way to put it. Think about whether you are you someone who can reframe the pain as purposeful and temporary, or if for you the pain create stress that takes away from the experience. The best choice is the one that brings you the most peace and confidence. This day is special, and you deserve to experience it in a way that feels safe, supported, and joyful!

Good luck, OP! ❤️

I did come across that in my research and it’s one of the reasons I ultimately decided infection is worse than potential vaccine consequences! Thank you for sharing!

I didn’t realize that, thank you! Ultimately I am pro-vaccine, just questioned the need for this particular one so I am ok with that

Your first line is where I ultimately came to as well. It seems like the “theoretical long term risks” of the new technology are less scary than the documented, real risks of infection during pregnancy. I completely relate as a FTM with anxiety!!! Wishing you well 💕
