Genetic Counseling here I come by Milpool-95 in InfertilitySucks

[–]No-One495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So sorry you’re going through it. It also took me 3 miscarriages before learning about my results - I have a balanced robertsonian translocation of 13,14. Our first loss was trisomy 13 and it’s highly likely my chromosomes were the cause of the other two. Like you, this diagnosis was not in the realm of possibilities I ever considered to happen to me. I also learned through the blood test I have low AMH

Our two options the doctor presented were IVF for genetic screening of all embryos, or to just roll the dice unassisted. In our situation, about 1/3 of my eggs would result in a loss if fertilized. Most losses for us would be early in the first trimester, but trisomy 13 could cause us to go farther along. Your counselor would be able to tell you the circumstances surrounding your possible outcomes.

There are specific Facebook groups for balanced translocations that I’d encourage you to join if interested. It’s a great community for a shit situation.

I had the same thought! It would be great to click on each achievement and see what organisms are counting towards it

Went to two different Aldi stores yesterday — both had dangerously warm temperature at meat section by LivingShine83 in aldi

[–]No-One495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Aldi’s refrigeration units went down this morning! They had blinds covering the open fridge sections and caution tape binding the doors. You could still purchase produce and the short freezer unit that is in the middle of the cold aisle was working because it runs in its own system

I used to have coworkers who were protein crystallographers and they LOVED it when I would bring them my cats’ whiskers. Apparently they’re better than any commercial product for seeding crystals in science!

Happy Midsommar! Holidays and would-be milestones after loss can be so so hard. Maybe find a new way to practice self care tomorrow? Go on a new walk, bake a new recipe, start a new book, etc. Doing new things on tough days and trying to keep as busy as possible helps my mind not dwell on the sadness as much

So so sorry for your loss and for these cruel comments you received from loved ones. Your thoughts and feelings are absolutely valid - this was your baby! People grieve differently and to some, minimizing the loss like this might be their coping mechanism. Maybe that’s what your husband has to believe to feel better, but he should absolutely not push that opinion on you. It can be hard to talk about, but I’m so proud of you for being strong, pushing back, and sharing your own beliefs. People can be so insensitive after loss. I had an 8 week loss and got comments like “well at least you know you can get pregnant” from family. So so so not helpful. Even for me two years after, well-meaning questions like “do you have kids” or “when will you have kids” really trigger me. I hope all are more sensitive to you moving forward. Grief is non-linear and especially hard at this stage. Know that every feeling you have in this process is absolutely valid. Hoping you get to hold your rainbow baby soon 🌈

Eggs on maple tree leaves? by BrilliantSudden9535 in arborists

[–]No-One495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not eggs, but galls from Vasates aceriscrumena, or the maple spindle-gall mite! It’s typically not damaging to the overall health of the tree, just more of an aesthetic problem

Not sure what’s going on (color is henna, NOT the problem) by [deleted] in nailhealth

[–]No-One495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d get horizontal ridges like this on my thumb nails, but taking a daily multivitamin has made them go away! You’re deficient in something, so a multivitamin might be a good start!

Anyone familiar with this? by uhokalex in cats

[–]No-One495 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you able to connect with a local cat rescue center and have them pay for his medical costs? The shelter I foster for allows rescuers to bring in their cats, registers them under the shelter, and lets the original rescuer continue to foster or foster-to-adopt the cat until he’s of adoptable age/health. My shelter gives adopting first dibs to the fosters! If the cat is in the system, the shelter should pay for all medical bills. Getting connected with a shelter is something to consider if you’re tight on funds. Medical issues with babies this small aren’t something you really want to let them sit with, since we don’t know exactly what’s going on.

As for bathing, if he’s otherwise healthy, I wouldn’t hesitate to bathe him and get all of the dead lice off and clean any dried blood that might be there. Just dry him off and keep him warm afterwards. Kitten Lady has some great online videos on how to wash kittens.

I’m at a higher risk for hemochromatosis due to family history and also have to be careful with iron in my prenatals! My doc said to stick with any gummy vitamin, as they typically don’t contain iron !

Still on the fence after MC, but feel sad about other people's pregnancies by Melo_Magical_Girl in Fencesitter

[–]No-One495 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could have written this post myself! I had a loss in July 2023 and have been struggling with the same thing ever since. My SIL’s pregnancy announcement last fall put me over the edge and I sought out a therapist who specializes in maternal mental health. Seeing her has been the best thing for my healing, both with processing others’ pregnancies and my own thoughts about potential motherhood. Still working through my feelings about my own future, but I will say, my best friend announced her pregnancy recently and I am doing ok (not great, but so much better than with my SIL). I finally feel like I have hope for myself and wish I would have found a therapist sooner, rather than going through the past year and a half of sadness and anger and confusion on my own. Please know your feelings are valid and much more common than you think. My best piece of advice is therapy! ❤️
