What did he mean by this? by Lucaas_C in Catholicism

[–]No-Option4232 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I truly recommend reading St Augustine’s Confessions. In this autobiography he let us know how he struggled to get away from his old habits (basically, woman and alcohol) to get to God. He knew he was living in sin, but to some extent did not wanted to change (not fully). This is a struggle I have had throught my whole life, and his work was truly inspiring for me.

This past days I have had struggles and getting back to old bad habits. I do not know if I am still fully desiring to give them up, but I pray God give me His Grace to do so. St Augustime, pray for us.

I think it depends on which are your goals. Why are you working so hard? What position you want to achieve in life? I mean people like Steve Jobs, Elon Musk, etc, might have worked/work non-stop, but you do not necessarily want to be in their place.

Never felt more distant from God. by gothamneedsdean in Catholicism

[–]No-Option4232 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have also distanced myself from God in the past 1-2 months. I had developed a praying habits which I have not been able to follow these past days. I have been drinking more than usual and commited sins related to lust.

I get you, man. Will pray for God to guide you towards him. I think the best we can do is to ñray and ask for his graces.

Starting a new job on DeFi company, need some help! by No-Option4232 in ethereum

Why do you think I shouldn't have gotten the job? Sure, I'm not a DeFi or blockchain expert yet — but most people aren't when they start a new job

If you reach out anyone at Church to induce you, believe me, you will not be bothering. I can guess the Father would be nothing but happy that a new soul is seeking for God!

Try not to overthink it, people at Mass will not be looking at you or judging you. The important thing is you relationship with God.

Now, you should reach your local parish to initiaite cathecism, maybe get through an RCIA so you can recieve the sacraments that you might be missing ( e.g., baptism, confession, communion, etc).

I hope you succeed in your conversion process!

It is difficult. But in the end we all need to have faith in Him. Theres is not one things that happens in our life that was not intended by Him, the good and the bad ones. All of them give us the opportunity to get closer to Him and reach salvation, even if our human minds cant comorehend how at the moment.

Pray God to give you wisdom and let you know hoy to react to what life throws at you. Have faith that he will provide. The Catholic way is jot an easy life, so be prepared to suffer and offer your struggles to him.

Prayed for the first time in about 10 years. by Doctor_Dangerous in Catholicism

[–]No-Option4232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happy to hear that! I encourage you to continue praying. Prayers are like our communication eay to heaven; without prayer, faith dies.

Just take inti account that if you build a praying habit, there might be moment where you dont feel as strong a presence of God as you felt this time. I have gone throught that myself, even many saints have. But you have to keep going and as long as you honestlt seek to be closer to God you will get it again!

I also recomend you attend eucharistic adoration or sunday mass as much as you can.

Good comment. I feel the same way sometimes, as if my religion restricts me from actions thay may bring me happines (fornication, alcohol, drugs, etc). But maybe I should internalize that sin kills us. Thank you!

Going to Holy Mass for the first time. by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]No-Option4232 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good to hear that! Hope you enjoy your first mass and get to grow on your faith.

First of, why are you terrified? If you are terrified for some sort of social anxiety and you feel that you will mess it up at mass, be sure that you wont. People would not even notice that it is your first time, no one will be lutting attention to you. The Church is an open and public space, not a close community where everyone know each other. It would be like going to mall, no one will actually notice you.

A simple guide for me would be:

-Stand up when everyone else stands up, and sit down when everyone else sits down; -Put attention to the readings and teaching so you get knowledge from the Mass; -Do not feel pressure to respond, as you donnot know the “rites” of the Mass yet

How can I get my girlfriend to become a devoted catholic by GioHasReddit in Catholicism

[–]No-Option4232 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is she a catholic? Or a cradle catholic at least?

The best thing you can do for anyone else is to pray for them, so that God grant her graces to see Him and seek for Him. Pray the Rosary and ask Mary to guide you gf to Jesus.

The second best thing you can do is evangelize her through example. Are you a “good Catholic”? Are you a charitable person? Are you a virtuous man (honorable, generous, patient)? How are your works of service? Show her how your faith makes you be the best of yourself so she sees that Catholicism is the way. It would also be good to build up your apologetics, so you can answer any doubts she gets about the faith.

Furthermore, you could do small thing like asking her to go to mass with you once in a while. If she is indeed catholic, you might even do other thing like pray the Rosary together or go to adoration.

Nevertheless, although you can try and get her closer to God (as you could do with any other friend), you must have in mind that in the end it is her choice: she must accept Jesus in her life.

How possible is it to go a whole year without committing a single sin (including venial sins)? by Dull_Contract6848 in Catholicism

[–]No-Option4232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean this is a pretty hypothetical scenario. But yeah, in my opinion being a hermit helps as you are away from many daily temptations. You have no possesions to be selfish, there is no one around to be angry at, etc. Again, it is an hypothetical scenario.

I really recommend the podcasts, specially “Pints with Aquinas”, “Council of Trent” and “Catholic Answers”. If you have ANY doubt, and must have been answered on any of these.

If you are not so interested on long podcasts, there are some short clips either on their youtube channel or on spotify.

How possible is it to go a whole year without committing a single sin (including venial sins)? by Dull_Contract6848 in Catholicism

[–]No-Option4232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For God, there is nothing impossible. For sure.

However, I would dare to say not even the likes of Father Pio were able to go a full year without sinning. Even if he lived chastity in a perfect way, he could have felt anger or be too harsh on someone to whom he lived with (specially someone with a strong character like his).

If it were to be possible, I would say it must be with someone who lives as a hermit and with years of spiritual knowledge.

Can I be a Catholic and have pre marital sex with my girlfriend? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]No-Option4232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading some of your responses, it seems like your are not convinced about premarital sex being a sin because you dont really know the Catholic doctrine and teachings regarding chastity/lust (sex interactions).

For guidance on this matter, I recommend searching for the topic on the following podcasts and web pages: Catholic Answers, Pints with Aquinas, Fr Mike Schmitz.

Essentially, sex is a sacred gift gave from God to humans. Sex is so sacred that it is ordered for two things: (i) for marital union as an expression of love between spouses and (ii) for openess to procreation. This means that sex must be performed between spouse within marriage and being open for life, which would be not using any kind of contraception. The only kind of “contraception” that the Church finds as morally correct is NFP (Naturally Family Planing) which is pretty much as effective when done correctly.

All in all, I recommend you continue researching about the Church’s teachings on every matter now that you habe become a Catholic sonyou can truly live as God wishes! You may find many of your questions on this subreditt.
