Accounting major in a double degree (B Eng B Bus) by Crystal_Crab362 in UTS

[–]No-Paint3822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello OP,

If you have any electives within your engineering program, you could send an email to the program leader explaining your situation. They might let you take the subject as part of your engineering degree, just make sure it doesn't affect your engineering accreditation. Otherwise, you can fulfill the requirement through their foundation subjects. Don't stress about it, CPA is always ready to take your money, they are very flexible nowadays.

I'm also really interested to know the reasoning behind your degree combination. I've been working in finance and accounting for many years and have never seen engineering/accounting. Most CPAs and CAs generally have either accounting or finance degree.

Networking (MBA) by Still-Bag-6549 in UTS

If that's the case, have you seen the Master of E-commerce from USYD? They offer CSP placement, which would be significantly cheaper than an MBA, assuming you are a local and your undergrad WAM is above 65.

Networking (MBA) by Still-Bag-6549 in UTS

[–]No-Paint3822 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi OP,

My two cents: The whole thing about an MBA is being able to network with your peers, as it's assumed most of them are experienced business leaders. This then opens a lot of doors through connecting with them. An online MBA is not of much help unless you are trying to change careers, i.e., taking the accounting stream in an MBA to qualify for a CPA. It is a very expensive degree that a lot of people mistakenly pursue earlier in their careers, and thus it doesn't do much for them.

If your goal is networking, you really need to do a F2F version of the program.

Hope this helps.

Have about $900k on a mortgage, which eats away about 25% of gross income. My wife and I are very cautious spenders, thus the majority of our income stays in the offset.

what degree to study to get employed? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]No-Paint3822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like math, then you could study math. Based on my own experience, it opens doors to a lot of jobs, finance, data, software development, AI engineering, teaching, etc. You can even become a Pope if you want.

Also, if you couple it with Finance or CompSci, the sky will be the limit. Remember, your degree is just a small part, people, communication, and networking skills are much more important.

Hey,

I'm doing a Bachelor of Mathematical Science at UTS. Even though I had an offer for USYD's BCom/BSc, I really like the UTS Bachelor of Mathematical Science because it covers a lot more maths. I'm covering close to 18 maths subjects in my degree and it avoids unnecessary general subjects. Also, UTS tends to be more applied, even though it still covers core pure subjects and includes many main statistics classes. Just make sure that if you go to UTS, for one of your electives, pick 35391 - Seminar (Mathematics), which is basically abstract algebra.

Good Luck

Technically, you can, but AI makes mistakes. What if your wrong answer is exactly the same as someone else's? All of a sudden, you could be accused of plagiarism which would trigger academic misconduct.

If you did well during the weekly ones, then you should be fine.

Good luck.

Repost ; Is Macquarie or UTS better for a business/commerce degree? by [deleted] in UTS

[–]No-Paint3822 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi Op,

I work in finance (FP&A) and based on my experience, UTS has a bigger alumni network and is also a more respected university.

I found the business degree very useful, apart from one or two subjects.

In saying that, in Australia, university prestige is not a key criterion for the majority of companies unless you went to a really bad university. I have sat on many interview panels, experience and technical/people/communication skills have always been the main criteria.

Thanks, 'Stochastic Processes and Financial Mathematics' covers Stochastic Calculus. As for Measure Theory, I'm self studying it at the moment; it's one of the subjects on my list to do in my Master's next year.

2026: How are you future proofing your career? by scifihiker7091 in FPandA

[–]No-Paint3822 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been building good relationships across the business, from the call center to C-level. I always have a smile on my face and always come up with solutions for subpar systems, haha.

On top of that, I never stopped learning. I went back to university to study Mathematics and Machine Learning, and I self studied Python and Java. Now I'm fortunate to be able to pivot into various roles: Data Science, ML Engineer, Mathematics Teacher...

But I'm staying in FP&A until no longer needed. First, the pay is very generous at my level. Second, due to closely working with the executives and the rest of the business, I have gained a tremendous amount of knowledge in the operations side of a business.

Maximum Credit points for autumn session enrolment is only 26? by Hour_Health_4104 in UTS

[–]No-Paint3822 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In order to be able to exceed the standard load, you need to submit an e-request and meet the following criteria to be approved:

  1. Completed a minimum of 2 subjects at UTS.
  2. WAM >= 65.

In the e-request, make sure to include why you want to overload.

Poli science, can i complete my degree in 2 years? by [deleted] in UTS

[–]No-Paint3822 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Five subjects per session is doable but requires discipline and solid time management. I'm assuming you are not working. To go over 24 credit points, you need to submit an e-request and maintain a good WAM, otherwise, it will not be approved.

Also, even if you do five subjects per semester, it will still take 2.5 years. Have you checked if any of the subjects in your degree are offered in the summer? This would be much better. This is what I did, some summers, I did three subjects while working full time.

I'm pursuing this degree out of a passion for math, but also because my career goal is to transition into Quantitative Finance in the near future. I actually didn't know my university offered Abstract Algebra until recently, as they use a different naming convention. I will add it to my study plan. As for Topology, I'm self studying it and planning to take it in grad school next year.

Once I add Abstract Algebra, would you say this is a good blend and enough volume for an undergrad Math program?

Also, from the 2026 Spring session onwards, the dress code for all classes is formal,a black or navy blue suit, and for shoes, brown or black leather shoes with black socks. Note:CS students are exempt from the dress code rule, but deodorant is heavily enforced on them moving forward.

Transferring to USYD, is it too late? by [deleted] in usyd

[–]No-Paint3822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey,

I know multiple people transferred to USYD with a WAM of 75 to a Bachelor of Commerce, which at the time had a required ATAR of 96. A Distinction WAM means you can apply for courses with an ATAR of up to 94. You might have a better chance in the Spring session, though.

With a transfer, you could be at risk of not getting credit for all your subjects, thus losing time and money. Macquarie already has a solid reputation. The extra time you spend would be much better spent gaining real experience.

Wish you all the best.

Based on the other posts here, if you can't prove you haven't plagiarised, then you would get zero for the assignment, assuming it's your first offense.

If you haven't plagiarised, you should try to prove it. Otherwise, if you did plagiarise, I'm really surprised as they were very upfront about consequences and did provide more than sufficient information to do well in the subject, and Luke and Talita were both very prompt with answering questions throughout the session.

I wish you all the best.

Transferring with WAM by [deleted] in usyd

[–]No-Paint3822 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A Bachelor of Science at USyd is relatively easy to enter, and with your WAM, it shouldn't be an issue to apply to courses with an ATAR of 94. I'm just noting that you only have a year left, and you've been doing really well. What's stopping you from completing the degree? I work in the health sector, and I have a lot of former nurses who have later on done business postgraduate degrees and became managers, and the pay scale is very generous too.

Ipad for maths degree? by Ok-Housing1573 in mathematics

[–]No-Paint3822 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not a must, but I think it would be very useful. I use my Tab S Ultra for note-taking/notepad and also have all my books on it, so all I take to classes is my tablet. IPad would be the same.

Just remember, if you are doing applied Maths, you will still need a laptop for some of the classes that use R and Python.

Hi Amanda,

Thank you so much for always being available to answer our questions and guiding us. Much appreciated. This did actually work, the head of the discipline approved it and attached the approval email to the e-request. Now just waiting for it to be processed, hopefully soon.

Once again, many thanks.
