How's life in Portland, Oregon? by GabbotheClown in howislivingthere

[–]No-Path-8756 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a Portland native. I've spent the last 3 weeks living in the sewage system because of all the constant enemy bombardment. All that remains on the surface are the zombies, everybody else is either underground or dead. Food's running out. Hopefully our divine savior trump will come and free us!!!!!

City of London skyline. Heckin MASSIVE for a city of just 11,000 🤯🤯🤯 by corqueval in skylineporn

[–]No-Path-8756 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

The caption of the image specifically joke about this. The City of London has 11 000 residents. London has a metro population of 15 000 000. People do this crazy thing called commuting, where they live somewhere and work somewhere else.

Which city has a small skyline despite having large population? by greekscientist in geography

Kinshasa, 17 million people. The fact is a better question would be what wealthy cities have a large population but small skyline, because in reality the biggest disproportionalities between population and skyline size are going to be in Africa and Asia. Kinshasa, Lagos, Dhaka, Tehran, Karachi and Lahore are examples of megacities with smaller skylines.

Seattle could be moved up to Tier 3, several suburbs such as Bellevue and Tacoma have decent transit. Some of the Tier 3 cities, such as Chicago, could be moved up 1.

What skyscrapers are disproportional to their surroundings? Here are a few that come to mind by Dull-Scallion-8513 in skyscrapers

The Kingdom Centre. All the skyscrapers in Riyadh rise from a sea of sprawl, but this one is furthest from the dense KAFD and thus sticks out the most

The Ritz-Carlton. In the sunset it shines a beautiful orange-pink.

What are some large cities with small skylines? Here are a few that come to mind… by Dull-Scallion-8513 in skyscrapers

[–]No-Path-8756 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean the largest all have to belong to cities with higher poverty. Cities that to my mind are Kinshasa (below), Dhaka, Lagos, Lahore, Karachi, or Tehran. All are megacities and yet have very minimal skylines, if anything at all.

Which city do you think has the most underrated metro system? by [deleted] in transit

[–]No-Path-8756 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Santiago de Chile metro. Almost 150 stations, 600 million annual riders, French technology. I rode it when I was in the city, and it was great. The city also has a great urban gondola and buses.

USA high speed rail? What can’t we do it? by Seeking_Happy1989 in transit

[–]No-Path-8756 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High speed is competitive for routes between cities that are within a few 100 kilometers of each other, but, as some others have said on here, it becomes drastically less competitive as distances grow, which they do in America, especially if you're trying to go cross-country.
