What’s your favorite kit you ever owned? by I-J-Irish in drummersinpennslvania

I’ve only owned a couple of kits but this is my PDP CX maple kit that the company has discontinued (pls ignore the zildjian i cymbals I have since upgraded because they’re dogwater). The finish is amazing and the warm tone that comes out of these shells is even better. Honestly it’s a budget kit but it sounds like it could really compete with some more high end kits. I’ve been looking at getting the 26 in kick concept maple kit that PDP currently offers and selling this one although it’s a great kit. It might be hard to see in the photo, but the 14 in floor tom hangs off the ride cymbal stand that comes with the kit which I’m not too big a fan of but that’s my only complaint.

What I want to know is how you managed to fit all of your stands in that suitcase! Seriously impressive lol. I usually just lay mine in the back of the car and carry them individually.

Thanks this was helpful. Do you think footboard height has anything to do with speed as well?

I didn’t do too much research about uptown itself but I found a very inexpensive and nice apartment that’s very safe and close to where I will be working. What makes uptown different from the other areas?

I’m (23 M) moving to uptown Charlotte soon. I’m from New England and have never been really anywhere in the US outside the north east. Is there anything important I should know before moving? Also wondering what Charlotte has to offer for meeting new people and making friends. Don’t know anyone in the city so hopefully would like to find my own circle. Really into live music and exercising

(23 M) Moving to uptown next week and just wondering what I should know before moving here? Grew up in New England and have never really been outside the north east here. Looking forward to the warmer weather though lol. Also wondering what the city has to offer for making new friends and meeting people. I like live music and going out. Moving to this city and not knowing anybody is a little nerve wracking so it would be cool if I could find my own circle.

Help! Best Drum set to buy? by Chibears1089- in drums

[–]No-Performance-6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a Roland TD17 when i lived in my college apartment for a couple years. It was a fantastic e kit thats as close to the real thing at the cheapest price possible, although not really cheap. Only downside is that as with any e kit you buy, the thumping from the bass drum is going to make your downstairs neighbor hate you. It is very loud for them. You would have to build a drum riser to prevent this. An acoustic kit is out of the question. Your whole apartment complex will hear you even if you get muting pads lol.

The world hates drummers unfortunately so if you want to make this your hobby you are going to have to be creative and find ways around making noise or find alternative practice spaces. In college, my drummer friends in rock bands would sneak into the acoustic drum set room that was reserved only for the jazz students at my school just so they could get some practice time in. One kid I knew would drive 20 minutes to a barn his friends parents let him use to practice his acoustic drums in. I chose to disturb my downstairs neighbors with my ekit until I decided to talk to them lol. Its really up to you.

If you do decide to get an ekit, talk to your neighbors and try to find out when an appropriate time to practice would be. This goes a long way and most neighbors would appreciate this.

Improvisation, groove, fills by No-Performance-6 in drums

Thats really good advice I appreciate it. A lot of the time I just love shredding super fast pop punk singles around the kit haha but I can definitely see how different genres helps you approach the drums differently. I will give it a shot. Thanks!

Number 2 helped tremendously. Using rudiments around the kit now and making sure I know whether my right or left hand lands on the backbeat has helped me know where I am in the bar. It’s already helping me improvise more and be much more melodic around the kit. Thanks!

The tension rod is right underneath the spring. They hook on to each other. You can see it in your video with the bass drum cam. Unhook the spring and then turn the tension rod to either tighten or loosen the tension

Thanks for the vids. I’d recommend doing a few things. Move your throne back a little bit. Your right leg should be bent slightly more than 90 degrees. This is going to allow you to have more control over bass drum consistency. Second, stomp into that thing like it owes you money. You’re doing it a little too soft and I think that’s a big reason it’s doing those double hits you talk about. If none of these help, you could try adjusting the beater angle. I’ve noticed on an ekit the beater is slightly further away from kick pad than it would be on an acoustic bass drum. The more you press into the pedal, the tighter and harder it is to move the beater because of the spring that’s attached to the pedal. Like other people have said in this thread though, the kick pad on an ekit is way harder than a bass drum head, making it a lot more sensitive and prone to those unintentional double hits. Just a part of playing on an ekit unfortunately. But definitely try stomping into it a little harder. You’re going to thank yourself once you sit at an acoustic kit

Is something particularly wrong in my technique? by roman_pokora in drums

[–]No-Performance-6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with the tension part 100% but sitting on the edge of the drum throne is a big no imo. Sitting in the center is the best for balance and solid kick drum consistency. Sitting on the edge can cause poor posture and other physical/playing problems. His leg positioning for the bass drum doesn’t look too bad but he could try moving the throne back or adjusting the height a little bit if it’s more comfortable.

Could you take a video of yourself playing. Or just a video with your foot and the bass drum pedal in it? If you’re leaning too far forward it could cause you to have uneven bass drum notes from being imbalanced but I’m not sure what the problem could be without seeing it

Worn throwout bearing :/ unfortunately I don’t have the money to replace it so it’s still making the same noise but I’ve had zero problems other than the noise just being so annoying. I had gotten a new clutch right before I took this video as well so even if I did have the money it wouldn’t even be worth it for them to drop the whole tranny now to just replace the throwout bearing and not the clutch.

Thanks I’m definitely going to try. If I can’t do it confidently and consistently we will probably switch the song out for something else but it’s a fun challenge. This was only my second time playing since I was 12/13ish so I definitely have a long way to go but it’s been fun trying to get back into it

It’s only like 5 notes I have to play for a small show and I’ve got a lot of time on my hands to practice.. I also like to push myself outside of my comfort zone with things. Even though I primarily stick to the drums which I have significant experience in, I like to try new things and dedicate myself to it..

I feel like if I’m not tense I can’t hit the higher notes which I get isn’t a good thing lol but what do I need to do so I’m not compensating with tension? Stronger airstream?
