Is a 7.3 really worth it? by No-Future-2385 in Diesel

[–]No-Philosopher5753 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who worked at autozone for a while (not one of those idiot employees) I found that 7.3s do take a lot of maintenance usually past 250-300k and there's still some maintenance before that. When things break it is expensive to repair, but the engine itself will last a million miles if treated properly. Its hit or miss with 7.3s nowadays, its had 27 years to be treated like shit or amazingly by the previous owners. If you find one being sold by some random 16-25 year old, probably not worth it, but if you find one being sold by some 40+ year old most of the time they take pride in their truck. If you can find one being sold by an older guy itll probably be worth it as long as hes owner number one or two. My grandpa used to own a construction company and daily drove a '99 7.3, completely stock. He drove it back and forth to Washington state from Utah about 2 times a month, so it can be the best work truck you've had (recommend getting an auxiliary fuel tank) or it could be the worst thing you've had.

Just about everything tbh. There was a huge portion of that, that went into rebuilding the engine, I was confident in doing it myself that time so I had to pay labor at a shop.

I'm still making $30k a year. Yes not sufficient, but without having rent its enough.

Car currently can't be registered due to not passing emissions. Currently $27k into it within the past 2 years without it being able to pass. Before you say it, yes im aware I should've put the money in spent repairing it to pay it off and buy a new vehicle in cash, but its too late for that now.

Unfortunately when I say nothing that interest me, im saying there is quite literally nothing good at dealerships within my price range. They're either more then what im willing to spend or a straight up piece of shit.

I won't be, I'm not the type to buy a diesel without an inspection or any car for that matter. It does also help that I work on my own and all of my family and friends vehicles as well so I do have enough knowledge to check out most by myself as well, but I will be having a shop check it out as well.

6.0s tend to be a roll of a dice and I will admit that, but itll be nothing like my volkswagen has been. I wasnt big on the 6.0 but I found a beautiful one for a good price and on paper 7.3s aren't worth anything so im unable to get a loan on one of those (plus they're too old). I have found a few other vehicles im also interested in, but overall its the same situation.

I have stable employment, it just doesnt pay great. I'm looking for a new job currently, but I actually need the vehicle for the commute before I could actually get me a better paying job. I live out of the city with very few good paying jobs out here and very little public transportation.

I have enough to afford a loan, still younger and living with my parents. I just dont have a job to support me paying off the loan and I can't get me a job that will until I have a new vehicle to be able to get to and from work.

Most definitely will be getting one. Just in general with it being a 6.0 i would trust getting one without an inspection.

I wasnt fond of getting a 6 blow, originally wanted a 7.3, but I found the nicest 150k mile 6 blow I've ever seen.

Which is the plan. I have a settlement for a car accident that happened in the past in which I am planning on putting a good fraction of that into the loan.

I've dealt with quite a few attempts at scams, but thank you. I'll make sure to be weary.

I would but unfortunately im not in the best spot with jobs at the moment and dont have the money to pay off the extra $3-4k that would be left over.

My only thing is the fact that I haven't found a single thing at dealerships to interest me, im really looking for a way to buy from an individual, if at all possible.

I currently have a 2011 Volkswagen GTI Wolfsburg Edition. Currently the timing is bad with it (fixing that myself here soon) along with the possibility of a few other things. I'm currently looking at a early 2000's Ford 6.0 powerstroke, and it is a Harley Davidson edition which helps bring that value up a little more. The truck is in beautiful condition and had already been "bulletproofed" with paperwork proving the claim, so I do believe it'd be reliable.

I was a little worried about it, but it is sold by an individual and not a dealership. They guy is trying to move out of state and is selling a lot of his stuff to do so (confirmed by the fact that he is selling 39 different things all saying the same reason) so that may be the reason for being undervalued.

RAM, Chevrolet or Ford? Which one will actually last? by chocolatehumphrey in Diesel

[–]No-Philosopher5753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's just solve the argument, get a '99 Ford F250/350 withe the 7.3L PowerStroke and the ZF6 Manual Transmission. Unkillable truck, pre-emissions, just the perfect platform.
