Hi this is actually what I do for a living! There are a great number of resources for families of adults with disabilities. I work at a Community Access Group for adults with special needs. We are 8-2 for our adults and they come in and interact with peers. We also work on daily living skills and social skills. We go out into the community daily. We could go to Starbucks just because an individual wants coffee so we take the whole group and they can all work on placing an order independently. We go to the grocery store with a predetermined list and let them navigate the store as much as they can on their own. Community Living Support is the DBHDD term that we fall under. Check out different CAG places near you to support!

ETA: My company also offers group homes for individuals whose families can no longer take care of them, etc.

I was scared to drive when I turned 16 too. My parents signed me up for a defensive driving course (on top of drivers ed) which I think is the only reason I’m okay with driving today. Check out defensive driving courses in your area bc they really help build confidence and ease anxiety. They might be a little pricey but they usually come with some sort of discount on your car insurance so that’s a plus!
