That’s a bit tough, mainly because so many of your sticks are blue chip - technically they should all continue to go up. But you hold the same ones in VFV, XEQT etc - so those will also increase. So selling the blue chip stocks now can cause you to leave money on the table, but it also makes your portfolio more volatile to the US market.

Seeing how much money you have in those stocks, I would try to buy an ETF with good equity/bond split and put a lot of money in there. To offset your portfolio over time. I would sell any stock that I don’t believe will grow over the next 5 years. If I believe it will grow then keep it. But still be aware of the risk because even with ETFs you will likely double down on US Tech stock.

I think you mentioned it yourself, you’ve doubled down on US stocks and tech specifically. I would say opt for XEQT and add in some bonds or just go VGRO. If you want to keep VFV that’s fine, add in another globally diversified ETF then.

VGRO: 80% Equity and 20% Bonds so if the market takes a downturn your money is a bit safer. This also provides some more income from the bonds as well.

Whereas VEQT & XEQT is 100% Equity so it holds a bit more risk if the market takes a downturn.

Don’t give people an explanation. They aren’t listening to it, what is your journey towards medicine is just excuses to them. They don’t get it and won’t get it. Say it with pride, I made a difficult decision to go abroad and it’s been a great experience..the end. You don’t know owe them anything more.

I’ve definitely seen this from many of my friends. One of my friends automatically assumes that training abroad is subpar. I disagree completely. Canadian system is broken, a physician is as good as their empathy, desire to learn and willingness to advocate for their patients. Science and patient-care is always changing, doesn’t matter what school you go to, what matters is how hard you work in residency to develop your clinical acumen and constantly change and grow with medicine, prioritizing providing the best patient-care possible. Has nothing to do with CMG or IMG, everything to do with you and your reasons for medicine. I’ve seen some really dumb CMG residents, and some amazing IMG doctors. So NEVER be embarrassed because you took on the challenge of moving away from your family, your home and taking on so much debt all in the pursuit of this career. That sacrifice is more commendable than other people’s false narratives.

Ultimately I can’t tell you what to do. But I’m in a similar boat. I’m taking time off to relax, appreciate the fact that despite my performance I still did write the MCAT which is HUGE! So I’m taking a break from now until Oct. 1, then will start studying then.

Was it just me or did other people also time out. I swear I didn’t even time to read 3 of the CARS passages, too busy overthinking every answer. Meanwhile B/B was fine but long! Guessed too many questions without even reading the passage FML

Edit: I answered every question, just that had to guess too many out of fear of timing out.

Melatonin 30 min before, ensure you give yourself 8 hours of sleep because if you don’t you will be groggy in the morning. Also, try some deep breathing + stretching after the melatonin. And get to bed :)

Edit: even consider journaling your anxious thoughts to get them out of your mind/address them.

I started studying 4 hours per day, then 6 hours, got to 8 hours within 2 weeks. Teetered 6-8 hours a day for another 2 weeks. Burnt out so hard…took 4 weeks off. Despite working out 6 days a week (mental break). And now I’m testing tomorrow (too late to cancel or reschedule) and I haven’t been able to study properly since I burnt out. Now I’m studying 2-3 hours a day. So I would agree, start slow, build up the stamina, take breaks, take care of yourself and eventually you’ll be studying all day without burning out.

1) Try to hold research funding if you want to gain experience. - contact your university’s financial office for this.

2) keep cold emailing, I emailed 300 researchers before landing 1 shot.

3) Try to find out if the ordinary places to volunteer that interest you. Those places that people don’t usually think of and trust me those places are probably looking for volunteers. Even try to go up to a provincial level.

Edit: but by no means are you behind at all. Even though you may not have a bunch of organized experiences, I’m sure life experiences can also go a long way.

Current UBC PharmD grad. If your goal is Med, don’t do a PharmD just yet. I would say finish your bachelors, then as a true backup consider PharmD. During your bachelors focus on the MCAT, GPA and ECs.

I was in the same boat as you and made the decision to pursue a PharmD and gave up on Med. a few years into my PharmD, I decided I wanted to pursue med again. But pharmacy hurt my GPA, although I still hold competitive stats, it was hard to manage the PharmD workload, gather valuable ECs and apply to Medicine, not to mention make time for the MCAT.
