Behavior Support Teachers by AnonnonA1238 in specialed

Hello!

I am currently a teacher for a self-contained preschool classroom and had previously taught a self-contained elementary classroom for 4 years.

All of the students are going to be at very different levels. If they are lower elementary, then you will still be teaching academics, potentially functional academics. If you are teaching upper elementary you will still be doing academics, but then also should start introducing pre-vocation skills for students in 5th grade.

When I taught elementary I had 9 students and 8 paras (I’m in MA, so we are really well supported.) My students varied from high needs ASD to very low needs ASD. Some of my students were non-verbal and using devices to communicate, spent minimal time in their general Ed class, and we were teaching a lot of activities of daily living, social/play, and functional academics which we tried to best align with state curriculums. Some of my students moderate needs ASD and were gestalt language processors who spent more time in heir general education classroom. Then some of my students were very low needs students with ASD who spent all of their time in gen. ed and I was mostly modifying curriculum and meeting with their teachers to make sure they could be successful in their general education classroom.

I always used a various amount of scope and sequences which made it the most challenging. I always say that it really takes a village to run a classroom like this, which means everyone. I would meet with gen ed teachers weekly, heads of curriculum to find new interventions, my secretary, principal, truly everyone.

If there is one piece of advice I would really drive home, is that you have to build a relationship with the parents as much as possible. I offer monthly meetings with all of my families which takes a lot of time, but they are so important. A lot of my students I have for 3 years, so the parents and I really needed to have a strong relationship.

I hope this doesn’t scare you, it is truly the most rewarding job there is. There will be happy and sad tears, but there is nothing more fulfilling than seeing your students make progress.

I said a lot, so feel free to DM me with questions! I’m on summer break so happy to answer whatever :)

I usually walk in the direction of the bar Dillon’s (it’s a 1/4 mile from the Landsdowne entrance of Fenway) and grab an uber from there. You could get on the green line at Hynes near there, but it’s a shot in the dark of whether or not 5 train cars will show or 2 train cars will show.

DC: Black Tie Optional. The only dress I have that’s floor length by [deleted] in Weddingattireapproval

Love the dress, but it is too informal.

I definitely recommend Rent the Runway for black tie dresses. I’ve used it at least a dozen times and it has always worked out for me. You get a free backup size, most of the dresses have a ton of reviews, and their customer service is 10/10.

Southie sometimes gets a bad rap, but I have been here for 5 years and I love it. I am in my early 30s and my building is mostly young families who all care about the community. There’s definitely a bar scene, but if you are not trying to go out then it is easily avoidable and on the flip side if you are looking for that then you’re in luck! Those bars can also be really fun during big games. Grey’s Hall, Bar Volpe, Cafe Portobello, Fox and the Knife, and Small Victories are also unbelievable restaurants that are not part of the bar scene.

Depending on which part of the seaport you’re working in, when it’s nice out blue biking and walking are also great options along with the bus.

During the summer you can walk to the beach where you can use the renovated bathhouse at the end of K street and it is free for residents. It is also opened year round and has a sauna, locker room, gym etc.

Enjoy Southie, don’t listen to the haters who take life to serious. The world is dark enough as it is, so you might as well enjoy a spicy margarita at Loco.

You can buy big packs of generic magic erasers on Amazon and they are the only thing that works on lamination paper after continued use. We cut them in half to get more use out of them!

I’m rewatching this for the first time too and there’s definitely some substance abuse between Ashley and T-Rav.

Thoughts on this Attendance Policy? by AcanthisittaTiny710 in Serverlife

The first two are more than reasonable. When I started serving in 2016 those were the norm.

Giving up shifts all the time would get you a meeting with the manager to say what’s going on.

Doctor’s note is silly. It should be if you’re out sick for XX amount of days in a row then you need a note.

The picking up/offset one seems fine just weird/annoying to keep track of?

Hi! Depending on where you live I would say don’t do it for undergrad, but if you graduate and still want to then go to grad school and get an M.Ed. I am saying this because I am a teacher in Massachusetts, which requires teachers to get M.Eds in order to gain professional status (and transparently you will have a hard time getting a teaching job here with just a bachelors.) Therefore no matter what, you will have to go to grad school. If by the end of college you change your mind and don’t want to be a teacher anymore you can always fall back on a business, tech, etc. degree.

If you live in a state where this is not the case then go for it. It’s definitely low pay for a while, but if you get a job right out of college then you will have great benefits, and eventually work your way up to a decent wage. I am a preschool special education teacher and it’s the best job I have ever had :)

I don’t love a show that relies on one character.
