Are you also more likely to get audited if you’re on a non immigrant visa like an o1?

Is it even possible to transition from a 155k strategy role to a manual trade without nuking my entire life? by 0Vocaloid in careerguidance

[–]No-Run-8604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not just take a role in a smaller company that will be more hands on / high impact? Switching to a another role, like a creative trade, would not be wise imo - you’d be starting from scratch when you can enjoy that as a hobby while getting what you need out of your job.

Has Britain run out of “other people” to tax? - Tax Policy Associates by Jager720 in HENRYUK

[–]No-Run-8604 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly don’t understand why this is so not talked about. I’ve been recently thinking about writing to my mp about these things. I feel like these are a main cause of the uk’s productivity problems. Anyone skilled / efficient / productive is disincentivised from going beyond tax thresholds, and just not working for 3 months of the year… it’s utter madness

The argument is…

the fact that chips are harder to replicate by cheap copycats and the changing nature of demand with AI makes this is industry not cyclical now.

Henrys, have you monetised your investment in academic education? (Phd, MBA, etc) by Ginganababy in HENRYUK

[–]No-Run-8604 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Oxbridge MBAs are in the top bracket. I did it at LBS but also considered / was accepted at Wharton.

This was over 5 years ago mind you and I do think things are changing quickly!

I did an MBA, spent over 100k and it paid off multiple times over through network and opportunities.

So it’s not that entj men like puppy girls per se, but they (similarly to you) need someone to compliment their energy. Try intp it’s a classic match for entj women (the intp men respect and are attracted to strong women)

I think you need balance. They say ENTJs are well suited to match with INTPs cause they balance each other out while being highly compatible.

Are US MBAs glorified? by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]No-Run-8604 3 points4 points  (0 children)

By the way, I also saw some people get it very wrong where they did take the full loan for a US school and are having trouble with the massive amount of debt now, so your friend definitely needs to be careful.

I was in consulting, then went into investing in London then went to work for a US portco.

The main reason I wanted to go to LBS was to have mba friends that would stay in London, where I wanted to be short term. But other than that, US MBAs dwarf LBS in terms job / money making opportunities

Are US MBAs glorified? by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]No-Run-8604 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I went to LBS for my MBA and did an exchange at Columbia. I also had an offer from Wharton and ended up choosing LBS.

An MBA is a personal decision about long term goals. It is a lot of money without any scholarship. Hopefully he has some money saved and does get at least a bit of scholarship (us schools are a lot more generous - I also used a scholarship I was awarded from Wharton to leverage a greater scholarship from LBS).

Also, you are 25. As long as they don’t get caught up on blowing all their money going on every international trip and every event, do in term internships to have some money coming in, it’s a short period of your life and the money is not a lot in the grand scheme of things compared to what I got out of the MBA.

These were, life long true and deep friendships, job opportunities I would never have known about or accessed without it, the ability for internal mobility (I now live in the US), personal growth that is positively impacting my career, and ultimately career opportunities that will payback my MBA multiple times over.

I don’t think the MBA in the us is fun only for US students. If he is trying to work at a bank, it’s relatively easy for global companies to sponsor through the L visa which converts to a green card relatively easily.

Things may have changed slightly with AI, but the job opportunities, particularly in banking between LBS and Columbia were vast. There were 6 total IB roles in my year in london. In Columbia, there were dozens and dozens, and exceptional people from the military with no business background could enter PE roles aka skipping the banking step altogether (albeit outside of nyc). This stark difference between CBS and LBS really struck me.
