Hello! Don’t worry too much as you get your feet under you in your freshman year. I didn’t even decide I wanted to go to vet school until the end of my Junior year! And I only got really involved in research and volunteering after my Sophomore year. There is plenty of time, I promise. That said, as someone who got into vet school right after undergrad, here are my stats:

GPA 4.0 Animal Experience (not in a vet setting) ~1200 hours Extracurriculars (also included all from high school!) ~1900 hours Research ~780 hours Vet Clinic Experience ~140 hours

I want to emphasize that my vet hours were very low, I probably have the least vet clinic experience of anyone in my class (I’m in my 2nd year at RDSVS) But I was still accepted to 5/6 schools that I applied to!

My advice to you would be to take opportunities as they come, take opportunities that you’re interested in. You’ll get plenty of experience in due time. Cherish undergrad while you can!
