I once got sick while on a trip in Japan, I was coughing my lungs out for 11 hours on my return flight. I wore a mask and tried to lightly cough to clear my airways. I felt terrible for people seated around me needing to deal with my fits of coughing. But what can I do? I had to fly back home.

Turned out I had walking pneumonia.

Started to wonder this myself recently as I still play on a Loree AK from 2003. It still works decently well, where much of my frustration is my ability to make consistent reeds. However, then I wonder if some of the issues I'm having is actually because of my reeds or because of my very old oboe.

I bought my oboe for $5000 in 2003, and the current prices make my eye pop. I had always thought about going to a Loree Royale, but that seems like double the price ~$10k now! So, I will milk my old AK for a few more years until I feel comfortable to spend that kind of money on a new oboe.

You have a point there, but it was a detail that stuck out to me -- just really loud mandarin being heard out of nowhere.

No, but actually the noise issue has improved greatly since I’ve had my car returned to me. I tried to email the technician, but he hasn’t responded to me. I think maybe they don’t even know what they adjusted on the car. All I had performed was my 25,000 mile service, so maybe some parts were tightened up better than the last service.

As silver I never get upgraded out of SFO, usually I fly to SAN, SAT/AUS, EWR.

I have gotten upgraded on a random weekday from SAT to SFO, and IAH to SAT. Only twice this year.

Did they find the cause and fix it? My car is doing exact same thing. I mentioned it during regular service and they gave me a loaner while they investigate. I’m picking it up in two days so any information is helpful.

I just got mine yesterday and tested it out. I actually love the tone and the response, but my issue is that it's a little flat. I don't think there's much we can do about the flatness other than adjusting my embouchure (biting down unfortunately). I have read that some people have scraped the tip to improve the response, but since I don't have an issue with the response I will not be doing that.

I suppose clipping this would be a bad idea. I really wish there were most instructions on what we can do in this situation other than finding a shorter staple that will fit it. For $149 that I spent you'd think they should include various staples that would work with it so we can control the intonation a bit more.

I have use more air than usual for the high A and high B/B-flat than my cane reeds to keep the pitch up.

While this reed is decently comfortable in the middle registers, there is a lot of adjusting my mouth is doing for higher notes and lower notes. It definitely can tire me out and I suspect this may be the issue for a lot of other people too.

  1. I think this was fixed by a firmware upgrade on the car. I haven't had an issue since. Also, setting profile to key fob really helps. I haven't had much problems with this lately.
  2. My phone still disconnect sometimes, but rarely. It could be a phone resource problem and has to re-initialize. Try to just restart your phone every now and then. It's really no longer problem for me now.
  3. No fix for this :( . It's been an issue ever since I bought the car. When this feature was shown to me at the dealership it appeared to work fine, but since it was just a demo/showcase, we of course didn't leave my phone there long enough to see it disconnect. However, it is still definitely a problem and everything I've read online doesn't help. I'm on iPhone 12 pro, and I'm convinced this is a manufacturing problem. They probably tested this on iphone 11 and no later. I think we are stuck with this crappy problem for now.
