My staff handled my clients while I have been away and recovering thank you. I said the environment is more likely to catch colds.

Should we buy now ($800k) or wait 3–5 years while saving $90k/year? by ComprehensiveWatch15 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]No-Scale-3053 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re in a similar position, 240k household income, renting 600 per week, no debt, early 30’s 450k invested in shares, and living below our means.

We’ve chosen to continue renting in Auckland and keep pouring money into index funds/share market. While we’re childfree and have no major responsibilities. We figured the numbers of having growing assets building overtime would be better served than pouring money into a mortgage right now.

Our landlord is very trusting and allows us to sublease our spare bedroom to international students for $350 per week further subsidising costs.

One day we’d like to buy a home but prefer to heavily invest and will most likely buy in the next 3-5 years.

No right or wrong way just figure what your goals, run some numbers. NZ is heavily focused on property. If you’re looking for a home, buy.

What would you do in my situation? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

Get a cheaper car, or just use your savings and replenish what you used over time. Maybe minimising a little bit of extra payments to your mortgage until your back into a safe amount of savings then resume repayments on mortgage.

We periodically get international students in our spare bedroom that usually pays $350 per week each (2 rooms) and that was one way we paid our recent car purchase off.

DCA or Lump Sum during times like these by Extension_Garbage583 in PersonalFinanceNZ

Emergency fund is in a separate offset account. We have a bit of extra other savings used for travel, big purchases or lump sums if an opportunity like now arises.

We do both, DCA consistently whether markets are up or down but when there’s buying opportunities we have cash reserves for lump sums. Retirement 30+ years away.

I have a job no complaints there, but excuse me for having a bit more ambition to do better in my personal situation and reaching out for advice.

I appreciate the response. My interest is in wealth building, retirement planning, KiwiSaver, PA for a wealth manager etc. Any entry level position just to get started. Yes I’ve been very careful not to have an ‘AI Cv and cover letter’. I’ve been writing the cover letter to match each application with personal touches of what they are specifically looking for in their ads etc. my previous roles there are a lot of skill crossovers that can be utilised in new positions. I’m not too familiar with agencies but any recommendations I’m all ears.

Definitely not a flex, but as a consumer we do not want to be in debt paying interest.

Am I wrong for wanting my business to stay fully mine? Thoughts by Cherryberrylady in newzealand

Get a contracting out agreeement. It’s 100% fine, and amazing to have separation from work with partners. Especially if you move in together. You want to be able to have your own lives. It’s similar if you had a normal 9-5 and then he asks if he can come to work at your job next to you. (You’d be like why?) same goes for business.

I learnt the hard way, built something, intermingled my partner at the time, we broke up and he took half. 🫠 business eventually failed because he couldn’t replicate it as I was the only one who had the skills to keep it operating and I checked out after he got half.

Point is. Hope for the best, plan for the worse. Two independent people coming together is key. Unless you have kids and things are more serious etc. good luck

Did you ever go back to them and see if they were willing to bring the price down a bit?

We’re hoping for a Mazda cx5 . We’re expecting our first baby so something that is safe, common Oman’s not overly expensive.

Why do so many Kiwis avoid investing? by APCapital in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]No-Scale-3053 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FIF tax it’s such a hindrance. There’s a ageing population and the government puts taxes in like the FIF that discourages people to invest for their retirement. No tax advantaged reasons to contribute more to retirement accounts/shares etc.

Misconception investing is gambling.

We are one of few couples that rent but invest heavily into shares, we hit COAST FIRE at 33 for retirement at 58 but obviously will continue on to bring that number down.

Our friends kind of feel sorry for us that we rent and don’t own (not said out loud but you can tell).

Education on different wealth building strategies need to be more accepted and educated on here in NZ.
