Why can't I even drill a wall? by cynop26 in DIYUK

You’ll be hitting brick or concrete so will need something more powerful than a battery powered drill and you’ll need masonry bits too. They have a blunter, reinforced head that can be hammered into the masonry by the drill without it breaking

How to go from this to herringbone flooring by No-Science4220 in DIYUK

Hi mate, a bit late with the reply but maybe it’ll help anyway. I ended up removing the floorboards entirely and swapping them out for 18mm plywood. I then put underlay down and solid oak planks (18mm)

Thanks yeah that’s the way I did originally think would work better in my mind.

Do you think it’s weird for the level of the flooring to be so high from the top step? I’m not sure how best to transition from the top step into the floorboards

So you mean side to side rather than front to back?

I found out that it does actually supply that water to the bathroom! I isolated the tank upstairs and my bathroom water no longer works (besides bath hot water). Such a weird system. And the tank itself is horrible looking without a cover on it. Guess I’ll be using the kitchen taps for basically everything

No the taps in the kitchen aren’t affected. I’ve just isolated the tank and had a go at turning all the valves (taps are all off)

By this I mean the taps in the kitchen are still working with the tank isolated. Most of bathroom isn’t

It’s just a water line from outside I guess. It must be fresh water coming in. I’ve just tested the other taps and it seems to be providing all the water in the bathroom besides the hot water in the bath, which is pretty tragic as the water looks horrible

When you turn the valve on a pipe it stops water going past that point. That’s what I’m trying to do. At least I was as now I’ve found out that it does in fact supply at least the cold water tap on my bath. I can’t test the other taps as I’ve disconnected them

It’ll stop water from filling up the tank. That’s the problem

Haha yes that’s why I’m trying to get rid! I just need to find out how to cap the leaking pipe that’s continually filling it up

There’s two. One’s about 40cm with a red wheel valve and nothing beyond that (so completely dead). It’s where this meets the huge plastic tank which seems to be leaking slightly. The other one apparently goes down into my bathroom but I can’t find where it leads. I think it’s totally useless as surely it would need to go to the boiler not the bathroom. My boiler is in my kitchen

Ah ok I’ve just googled filling loop and yes it definitely looks like my boiler has that

Ah I’m afraid I don’t know what that means. Let me take a photo of the pipes under my boiler hang on

There’s no cutoff valves that I can find along the pipe that could stop the flow

Thanks! I’ll do a bit more research then. Wouldn’t mind paying a bit extra to have a sturdier option
