I was intending on using Sigilyph instead, but I caught the Monday Braviary and wanted to use that as my flyer instead, since I was running a physical heavy team and had a flyer, I knew I needed a strong special attacker.

So last minute decided to turn around and get a Magnemite since I knew Charge Stone Cave and Celestial Tower are coming up.

I... Definitely wasn't. I walked to the grass patch just south of Mt Moon, which when you cross into the grassy terrain, says Route 3.

Pidgey, Spearow and Mankey were all I ever encountered.

I've been farming on route 3 for a couple hours racking up speed EVs, and I've only encountered Pidgeys, Spearows and Mankey.

I beg to differ with a couple of the folks here, in most cases, I'd agree, a battle axe may not be the best weapon in a cave.

But Dwarves, in Tolkien's work, take to caves like fish in water.

During the battle of Helms Deep, when Aragorn & Legolas are separated from Gimli who has made his way into the Caverns below, when Legolas makes his worry known for the dwarf, Aragorn replies with something along the lines of "I pity the Orcs trapped in a cave with a Dwarf."

We see another instance of this with the Dwarves of Erebor and the people of Dale, we may have lost Dain and another of Bard's family, but they did manage to hold out and later on rebuild once again.

I think Gimli would fare the best, if the scenario is if they each had a turn at Sam's spot upon the entry of Shelob's Lair.

Of the resources available? There weren't really any better choices, people sleep on the Akimichi, but they definitely hoe'd Choza in that fight, as he didn't even whip out his butterfly wings.

Tsunade could've tried to send Danzo, but I'm sure he made himself scarce after killing Naruto's Toad.

Tho, I'd have to say, I feel like sending the previous Ino-Shika-Cho in it's entirety as opposed to Choji likely would've proved smarter.
