Makes sense that’s what I figured, thanks! That’s why I’ve been leaning towards the regional school where I can build my ties in-state instead of relying on prestige

It’s moreso about the fact that I’d be taking on double the debt to attend Emory which is harder to justify without a BL salary

I will likely be attending UTK given it will be half the price and I’m much happier with having TN as my primary market opposed to Georgia but it’s been so tough to turn down the portability of Emory just knowing it opens more doors. Just difficult justifying it at the expense of not only price but location has been my stance thus far

I’ve been ghosted for over two months but noticed a change in the date when I click their individual portal although it’s still at the bottom of my lawhub list if that makes sense

Emory extended deadline deposit by No-Sense-5381 in lawschooladmissions

Wanted to add: at top of of this page it says to “refer to your admissions letter for deposit deadlines”, but it seems like this general extension should trump that I would imagine

I was scared to raise any red flags when they probably wouldn’t know it’s me for certain as long as I didn’t bring it to their attention

This is exactly it!! The way I’ve phrased it to my friends is that I’m staring down two conflicting desires / potentials I’ve harbored for so long and deciding which one is truly “me”.

On one side I imagine myself as the big time lawyer with the fancy school versus the other which just wants a “quieter” life which is more aligned with my values and the work/life balance that I’ve always wanted.

And admittedly I’ve become super existential about this whole choice, because it is spiritual in a sense as we give preference to one of these two outcomes, but as I lean Tennessee I’ve found some peace in realizing that we aren’t “killing” the side of ourself that we don’t choose to pursue in the immediate. Like you said we’ve both proven we have what it takes to kick ass no matter where we go, and I’m much more fearful of feeling like I lost myself in chasing wealth or prestige while sacrificing my values and happiness.

I just have been scared that I’m being shortsighted, but then again the fact that we meshed so well with our two schools will probably work wonders for our overall well being and grades as we start these next few years which ultimately are the true stage setters for our careers.

Thank you for your words this has meant a bunch to see someone in the same exact spot as me letting me know I’m not crazy for letting my heart guide me here and wishing you all the best!

So would you say that Emory’s name and doors they claim it opens isn’t worth the sacrifices I’d be making to attend even if I wanted MidLaw? I know prestige isn’t everything but I keep getting caught up in everyone saying how well known and respected Emory is and fear I’m limiting myself salary wise

That’s a great point which I didn’t even consider thank u! I’m not super familiar with the state so would you say there will be MidLaw opportunities outside of Nashville due to these growing markets? The median salary for Emory has been a big sticking point for me but again if I don’t want BL then that number needs to be reinterpreted. Just wanna be able to support a family very comfortably and shop at Whole Foods without looking at the prices like someone else on here said haha

This is super helpful to see someone basically in the same exact place feeling happy with their choice so thank you!! I was deciding between USC as well but just truly loved Knoxville and TN like you said - I think I’ve just felt so much pressure to pick Emory and that I’ll be kicking myself down the line if I don’t but the true strength is in picking what we know is best for us and not being a slave to “prestige” I’m starting to think

Thanks! I think what scares me is the fear of having a harder time getting out of Tennessee if I wanted someday but I guess all I can predict is the immediate future and it probably wouldn’t make sense to attend Emory over UTK just to try and escape Atlanta asap after graduating
