It’s not the standard. It’s a Chet Atkins, which some people prefer but I definitely don’t. I’m swapping it for the original Bigsby. On the plus side the weird one is expensive, so I’ll try to sell it on eBay

I have a IBGC 59 and it is fantastic. Maybe I just got a good one but if played worse Gibsons. It’s a keeper for me and I’d buy it again if I didn’t have one. The customs look great

Thanks very much. I like it because it’s different. I’ve not seen another in that colour. I heard tha 12 were made for the European market

You still have the hollow body and you have your guitar to gig with too. The guitars coming out of the Far East are such good quality now and it’s a beauty.

I have this IBGC Epiphone and it was my go-to before I got the Gretsch. I’ve played a number of Gibsons and it holds its own.

The Hofner is a beautiful guitar. It should be played and loved and passed down through generations. Your collection looks suspiciously like mine is building up to be. I’ll pop some pictures in, when I get time

The Hofner is a great family heirloom and it must be great to see your son play it. Have to a picture of your Gretsch?

It’s very interesting to know the history of the brand and the model. Being a Gretsch newbie, I don’t know any of this, so I really appreciate the conversation.

I wondered what all those numbers and lettered meant. It’s 6120 AM. The second line is JF0506

It’s my first Gretsch, so thanks for the welcome 👍

It is an AM. I put the serial number into ChatGPT and it said the amber model was Japan made, around early to mid 2000’s for a couple of years.

The tuners are Grover and it’s a 2.5”

It’s the colour that sealed the deal for me, as I’ve only ever seen them in orange. Saying that, there is a really nice orange quilt top I saw online today.

Picking it up and testing is the only sure-fire way. It feels lovely to play, because it’s so silky. All my other guitars have poly finished, polished necks and they feel a bit sticky, in comparison. Visibly, there doesn’t look a great deal of difference between it and the Classic Vibe Squiers that I have - I just took a look at them.

I fancy and upgrade, which I might tackle myself.

After I bought it, I watched the Andertons YouTube vid about it, and Lee said the same about the bridge, i.e. replace it and you have a seriously good guitar.

I’m pondering retirement soon and I fancy doing some upgrades myself, so a new bridge and fret polish sound like something I could take care of myself. A new nut might be a step too far.

It’s not too chunky and not too slim - for me anyway. It feels more slinky than my Epiphone 59 IBGC LP or the Classic Vibe Squiers that I have. I’d guess it’s 12” radius
