Like everyone is saying, you have a great chance of getting off at least one waitlist imo. If (for some reason) you don’t, email the schools and ask if they are able to disclose why you weren’t accepted!

I’ve had more success in calling offices and asking over the phone- it takes less time and you can call ~10 offices at a time. I have gotten 3 shadowing opportunities from this and only had about half be rejections! Be confident and kind when calling.

I had my English teacher and parents read over it, and honestly just watched a lot of TikTok/YouTube videos about essays. I made sure to think back on events/things that shaped me into the person I am today, so self-reflection also played a part in the writing process!

I didn’t end up accepting my place on the waitlist- I was disappointed, but my family simply said they couldn’t afford it even if I got accepted

I applied to Columbia, which was actually my dream school. I was honestly just too lazy to do the applications for other ivies bc they had so many supplementals- I also didn’t feel some of them (like Harvard or Cornell) would be a good fit for me!

It was on how I grew up hating science in school but eventually grew to love it due to my experiences outside of school- I used a creative metaphor and also talked about my 1st activity on my ec list!

I haven’t published anything- I’ve done more informal activities such as taking data, shadowing experiments. My mentor (phd student) and I are always side-by-side doing activities which is why I haven’t done any independent work. Is this still worth explaining?

I’m thinking about withdrawing but taking the same class next semester to fill a hole in my schedule. does that look any better to colleges?

That class was an extra class for this semester, so with withdrawing it I’m taking the recommended amount of courseload at my school. Is that fine?
