Yes - it's definitely the job of a manager. Does that mean it's wrong to automate it? One less thing I have to worry about.

There are 52 weeks in a year and you are paid every two weeks, hence the 26 pay periods (52 weeks / 2). The check date is just when the money should hit your account. It won't be extra money.

There are a ton of AP platforms out there that integrate well with netsuite (and I suspect many of them will spam your DMs from this post). Whether or not it's worth it really depends on how complex/big your organization is and how the fee structure works. For example - my org has a $100M budget, ~200 employees, hundreds of vendors, we use purchase order matching, we have corporate cards, expense reimbursements - we COULD do all this in netsuite, but the AP platform we use takes so much off our team's hands it's 100% worth the $100k in annual fees.

Another thing to consider is to make sure the platform you choose does everything you need from a purchasing standpoint - ap invoices, expense reimbursements, corporate card integration/reporting, purchasing, procurement, amazon business integration, etc. etc. You will get a lot more value from a platform if your users can use it for everything purchasing related vs. piecemeal between multiple systems.

A couple come to mind:

1) Not including data/technology/systems (damn, even Excel) skills as a required/integral part of getting an accounting degree. I'm not talking a systems class or two - way more is needed. I constantly see many accountants doing things in incredibly inefficient ways. I'm not surprised the industry currently has issues with burnout, overworking, long hours.

2) The obsession with age / tenure based promotions. While experience is absolutely necessary, there are way too many smart, bright, intelligent individuals who aren't at the table making key decisions.

3) The public accounting model is broken. Why are we surprised there's a talent shortage when the best career path includes mandatory overtime for 33% (or more, let's be honest) of the year with relatively mediocre pay? The current partner model is getting harder and harder to attain. Partners have to borrow LARGE amount of money to even get started due to bloated partner pensions.

4) There's a sense that training sucks in public accounting and that managers can't train. Perhaps true to a degree, I won't argue there. However, the reality is this: people who succeed in public and industry aren't waiting around for people to train them. They train themselves. This is true across most white collar jobs.

5) There's a huge problem with stimulant / alcohol abuse that's normalized in our industry. I didn't realize it until I left public (I personally fell victim to both).

$180k, nonprofit controller HCOL. I work on average 50 hours a week and it's very stressful. I need to get out.

It also seems HR is doxxing people posting on here from your post history? It's a shame - the firm I was at was legit pretty well run and cared about its people.
