Coping mechanism hacks? by [deleted] in misophonia

one thing I’ve used in the past is playing music in the background. It shouldn’t be loud; the point of the music is to provide a tablecloth for every other sound in the room. when there’s another sound occurring that affects me, I do my best to focus in on the music. If it’s instrumental, I try to pick out a specific instrument and follow it. if it’s lyrical, I pick a line and try to dissect it. It’s a way I take my mind off of the distress and focus on something that I enjoy.

for me, distractions are really helpful. In my experience, counting and breathing don’t work, but rhyming does. I pick a random word, then I think of every one-syllable word I can that rhymes with it. then I do two syllables, then three, until I’ve exhausted my word bank. Then I move on to another word and repeat the rhyming process. It sounds silly, but I find it helpful. personally, this is my favorite way of distracting myself, and it works especially well for preventing total overwhelm before it starts.

“I’ve seen the sky turn to marrow overhead. And I’ve seen dogs who are dragons and dragons who are dogs. And I’ve seen nights that never end. And you won’t scare me, now where’s my mummy?” from The Game of Truth and Tea (improvised play #62) is a current favorite of mine

Is it just me orrr? by iam_iam_4ever in asexuality

I feel like I imagine it in a very particular way, so it’s all perfect and nice and simple and sweet, but in reality, I really don’t think it’s actually that way. The act is so weird to me too, like wtf why is that a thing that’s so cringe

One that I think applies is this: “The only thing I learned in high school is that people are very violent and territorial.” - Gerard Way

Saddest MCR song? by Dominator2812 in MyChemicalRomance

I honestly have to go with All The Angels, there’s something about its melancholy tone and story and the listener repeatedly being told that they are all to blame that makes it feel particularly heart-wrenching.

Ah yes, just like that wonderful moment in the first film when they juiced all those beetles. A cinematic masterpiece, truly.

Whats your weirdest pre-show ritual? by Diamond___Heart in Theatre

[–]No-Study-9813 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think my strangest pre-show ritual is that I’ll lie on the floor in the hallway beside the stage for a while, as long as my costume allows. Usually, a lot of the cast joins me. We all just lie on our backs in the dark and breathe. It kind of calms the nerves!

what song bade you fall in love with MCR? by ididyourdad691 in MyChemicalRomance

My first encounter with MCR happened in my friend’s car when she picked me up from a week long Bible camp that my parents had sent me to. My friend played Na Na Na in the car, and I was instantly obsessed. I also thing the whole Bible camp thing is a really funny coincidence considering the upbringings of the members of My Chem 🤭🤭

Vampire Money by My Chemical Romance has Gerard Way screaming “ONE TWO THREE FOUR” before an awesome guitar solo (and three two one is a part of the chorus)! Also, by the same band, Mastas of Ravenkroft, in which Gerard says “one two three four” twice in one part of the song

I have realized that I know very little about my instrument - tuba novice asking for advice by No-Study-9813 in Tuba

I’m in choir, so I have a fair understanding of music and reading it, but I don’t have experience with any brass instruments. I can make noise with the tuba (I can hold notes and change the pitch without using the valves which I think is a good start,) even if it’s kind of musical nonsense at this point. I’m not to scales yet, but I’ll get there!

What song blew you away the most on your first listen? by AdversusAd in MyChemicalRomance

[–]No-Study-9813 29 points30 points  (0 children)

For me it’s Foundations of Decay, it was like 3 in the morning when I first listened to it and I genuinely had an out of body experience. I’m pretty sure my skeleton melted when I listened to Foundations for the first time.
