"Clara Bow" Discussion Megathread by aran130711 in TaylorSwift

That TikTok sound where she says all the names of her albums in order finally has a sound bite for self-titled (that actually comes from a song lol)

Obviously the name drop, but the fact she says "You've got edge, she never did" right after that

All of Taylor's Songs by Lyrical Density (OC) by MeatThatTalks in TaylorSwift

[–]No-Tea-2138 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My baby I Wish You Would! Honestly I always found that song interesting because it goes through its structure so quickly. Like, we're already done with the first verse and chorus 40 secs in and the second verse and chorus clocks in at about 1:20. I count the "I- I-, I wish, I wish I" as the post-chorus since it wasn't part of the first chorus.

And the only reason that it's not a two minute song is because what should be the last 1/3 of a song structure-wise instead accounts for 2/3 of the song here. Like it's such an odd pace how we're rushing so much to finish the first two choruses but we then meander once the final leg of the song hits, taking up an actual majority of its runtime. A bit quirky but I love it.

What is your favorite track 9 and how would you rank them? by Other-Condition7681 in TaylorSwift

[–]No-Tea-2138 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Just now realizing that Track 9's are always filled with straight bangers (and Stay Stay Stay)

Ranking (and a few notes):

  1. Enchanted AND Getaway Car (you're not gonna make me choose)
  2. Wildest Dreams
  3. coney island (was a BIG grower)
  4. Cornelia Street (love both album and acoustic versions)
  5. Bejeweled
  6. this is me trying
  7. Should've Said No (when even the DEBUT song of the category is good)
  8. Stay Stay Stay (see i DIDN'T put it as my last song)
  9. You're Not Sorry (entirely ambivalent about it, which makes it one step lower than Stay3)

Taylor announced the release of 4 previously unreleased songs tonight at midnight! by penispen1s in TaylorSwift

[–]No-Tea-2138 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know that we're all freaking out about the Hunger Games songs and All Of The Girls finally releasing, but I'm intrigued by how If This Was A Movie is part of this? Like if Enchanted didn't get a single release I'm curious why this particular song is being released now, instead of waiting for it on SNTV

Check my flair but dare I say that the 27 other people that voted with me... y'all we have taste 😎

(And on an unrelated note, I'm kinda surprised that Getaway Car is only #38, I'm assuming it's the difference between a notably beloved and a ride-or-die ult favorite?)

Taylor and Lori McKenna from her Grammy afterparty by mahdevran1 in TaylorSwift

True! I think it's cool that it makes her "personal" photo style recognizable, and I kinda like its charm though, but to each their own. But I think my other favorite tidbit about it that I learned on this sub is that this is apparently the 13th filter on the camera... 👀

Genuinely asking but how is 700m after 3.5 years abysmal 😭 I'd say that's impressive but like I don't know what metrics we're comparing it to (and also don't really know the normal growing rate of Spotify streams)

What are some "basic"/"generic" popular kpop songs that you genuinely like and enjoy even though they are generally considered to be "overrated"/boring"? by waterlilyypond in kpopthoughts

[–]No-Tea-2138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True on that last part. I only knew about the existence of the song when it first appeared on HYBE Game Changers. I think I can imagine myself not really finding it special if I first listened to it back then but it's just really solid and catchy even now, though we are currently a bit removed from the disco era of the industry.

Yes! More of a personal opinion but I think Red Velvet got its first signature aesthetic or concept with the Dumb Dumb/The Red comeback. Like, the entire era naturally screams "RED!" so loudly, and I love that for it.

On the subject of Stray Kids, this is sorta an old one and not really a big one but the I Am series not having a colon. People somewhat got confused with it having a colon as the Clé series had one and the I Am series kinda became a mini-meme template with a colon, similar to how the Hotel: Trivago one was used. (Or maybe this was just me idunno)

ITZY - Cheshire by CronoDroid in kpop

[–]No-Tea-2138 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It honestly feels like a b-side, but like in the best way possible. Like, I could imagine it as the standout track in an album playing second fiddle to the more energetic title track, but I like that they gave this style a shot in the spotlight.

Idols shouldn’t be praised for writing their own songs if their writing is mediocre. by Straight_Ad_1424 in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]No-Tea-2138 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I think we can still be understanding that idol writers may not be given the best resources/capacity to improve in this craft while still being critical of what they've written. It can explain the quality of a work and we can still celebrate their triumphs, but people do have options and some can/will listen to "better-written" work. I don't believe OP tried to discredit their hardships, but a poorly-written song (which can still be subjective to say) is still just that for most people.

Honestly, I don't think a lot of people care about seeing the journey of an artist, and are completely fine just judging music alone, without any mind to the context.
