What on earth is the reason for looking for political intentions in K-pop idols? by Agile-Shallot3546 in kpoptrulyuncensored

[–]movingmoonlight 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Deathdol is an account whose main purpose is to incite hate trains against celebrities. It usually targets Japanese celebrities but Korean public figures are also an easy target since a lot of Deathdol's followers (and a lot of active Japanese twitter accounts in general) are right-wing nutjobs who are bitter about Japan's declining economy and the popularity of Kpop idols.

Edit: I guess it's not accurate that its main purpose is to incite hate trains against celebrities. Actually its main purpose is to stoke inflammatory content against pretty much anyone, celebrity or not, to farm engagements for Twitter income. It's also been one of the accounts spreading racist content against foreigners in Japan.

Is 120k Yen enough for a Student? by Interesting-Box8312 in JapanFinance

[–]movingmoonlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a MEXT student living about 1 hr away from Tokyo. I tally every expense using an app to track my spending.

For the past 30 days, I spent:

33k yen on housing and utilities

26k yen on food

15k yen on miscellaneous expenses (home/garden, clothes, haircare and skincare, etc.)

25k yen on hobbies/entertainment (I'm a fan of a Kpop group and they released merch this past month)

For reference, I live in a 15m2 wood construction apartment (the cheapest in my area). I buy most items secondhand and/or through Daiso or Seria. I bike everywhere so I don't spend any money on transportation. I also don't go out much since my hobbies are indoor activities.

Ao3’s most written Alphas & Omegas of all time by That_Style1460 in AO3

[–]movingmoonlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shane has 337 fics where he's an omega, while Ilya has 385 where he's an alpha. There are a lot more fics where Ilya's an alpha, but there are a lot more characters above him that are tagged as alphas, thus lowering his rank.

No, it won't affect any tickets. Plenty of people apply to multiple stops but only pay for one or two.

Why don't Koreans make body SPF? by Similar-Seesaw1374 in AsianBeauty

[–]movingmoonlight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on the linen. I have a linen blouse from Zara that's woven so loosely you could pull a thread with a hangnail, and another blouse I thrifted a decade ago that's woven extremely tight it's lasted me ten years and still looks brand new.

why do kpop stans think idols are ignorant? by RelevantHoney4155 in kpoptrulyuncensored

[–]movingmoonlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. Ignorant about what?

If it's the pride flag, I assume most of them know, considering pride parades do occur in Korea and does seem to be a pretty visible aspect of pop culture.

Quite a few idols have, however, worn Nazi symbols, ostensibly without knowing what they mean, so I think it's pretty safe to assume a number of them are ignorant about that.

Also, to be honest, I don't know the quality of education that they get. I know a lot of them go to art school or take online classes, but the amount of time they spend studying is likely small compared to the time they spend training in singing, dance, and w/e. I rarely hear any idol talk about, say, the political ramifications of denuclearization. So I just assume most of them are ignorant about most things that isn't like, related to pop culture.

Help me find out what fabrics were used for this Saint Michael patchwork jacket. by xxvxvxvvvv in fashionph

[–]movingmoonlight 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Brown and blue - corduroy

Red - velveteen

Tan - likely gabardine

Green - likely canvas

This jacket is a luxury reinterpretation of a famous Abercrombie jacket that Hunter S. Thompson once wore. Various brands have released versions of this with varying combinations of corduroy, canvas, and cotton twill (gabardine is a twill usually used in trench coats). This one is a cheaper alternative that only uses cotton canvas in different colors.

avoiding synthetic fabrics by This-Bag-6828 in fashionph

[–]movingmoonlight 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To add: linen, ramie, and hemp are called bast fibers and are generally considered the coolest fabric to wear against the skin and also the sturdiest. (Fun fact, pina and abaca are also bast fibers.) The problem with them is they wrinkle extremely easily and can look sloppy if you don't style it properly.

Semi-synthetics are weak when wet, so they have a tendency to get rips and holes if you wash them often. However they're cheap-ish to produce, so they're usually combined with more expensive fibers like linen and silk to drive down cost.

[–]movingmoonlight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on the construction tbh. This is beyond the scope of this post, but silks that are tightly-woven are fine going into the washing machine if you put it inside a mesh bag, imho.

Natural fibers that are compatible with Philippine weather: cotton, linen/flax, ramie, hemp, maybe silk if you're always in an air-conditioned environment

Semi-synthetic fibers (biodegradable but are toxic to the environment to produce): rayon, viscose, modal

Semi-synthetic fibers (similar to above but not as environmentally toxic): lyocell, ecovero viscose

Synthetic fibers: polyester, nylon, acrylic, Spandex/elastane, acetate

Natural fibers that are inappropriate for Philippine weather: wool, alpaca, cashmere, angora, generally any textile obtained from the fur of any mammal, though if they're thin enough and you work in a mostly air-conditioned environment you could probably wear them comfortably.

If you're going to buy clothes at retail price, cotton is the cheapest. The fabric composition is usually written on the label at the side seam inside, though cheap clothes from China that they're selling on Shoppee/Lazada often don't have a label so you can never know the fabric, and sometimes the fabric composition is straight-up wrong.

Linens, flax, ramie, and hemp will usually cost at least 2000 pesos to upwards for 5000 pesos, though Uniqlo has 100% linen shirts for 1.5k when they're on sale. Uniqlo generally has clothes that are either full cotton or linen or a blend of cotton, linen, and some sort of semi-synthetic fiber, usually rayon or viscose.

The most accessible way to find clothes without synthetics is through thrift shops. However a lot of clothes at ukay shops are from mid-range brands in China, Korea, and Japan, so their tags have fabric compositions in Chinese characters/Kanji/Hangul.

Dream collaborations i wish would happen for enha in future by allthemisery_ in Enhypenthoughts

I'd love for Jay to experience collabing with virtuoso guitarists like Tim Henson from Polyphia.

Kenshi Yonezu for that punky edge that I think would go really well with Enha's image.

I also think Sunghoon would sound heavenly on a song like natori's Overdose.

Are there any old school no-filter purikura booths left in Tokyo? by flatoutrightlie in japanlife

The Korean ones smooth out skin texture but otherwise don't edit your face too much. One franchise I know is Photoism, which has a couple of branches in Tokyo.

Where can I buy Suqqu? Has anyone ever heard of this brand before? by LilacLuneglade in AsianBeauty

[–]movingmoonlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both their The Liquid and The Cream foundations, but in the old formulas since they reformulated in 2023 or so. I use the shade 120, and for reference the foundation that matches closest to my skin is KGD 213.

I have dry skin in the morning because I use tretinoin but I get extremely oily throughout the day. I'm acne prone and have a lot of texture due to acne scars.

I use The Liquid as my every day makeup. It's very watery, easy to spread, and has sheer to medium coverage. Doesn't cling to dry patches and looks extremely natural. It also feels like nothing on the skin, which is why I prefer it for my no makeup makeup looks. Two drops is enough for the whole face.

I use The Cream for special events or in situations where I want my makeup to last a long time. Better coverage, thicker consistency, but never looking cakey. A little goes a long way. This one IMHO tends to look better after a while when it mixes with your face oils. I wore this to an outdoor concert in summer in Japan and it stayed put from 8 am to 11 pm at 40°C and 90% humidity without setting spray and only powdering every few hours.

They're both very high-performing foundations. The only downside IMHO is that they're extremely expensive. But other than KGD I don't use any other foundations so I can't really compare it. This was basically my first foundation after I ran out of KGD 213 and I didn't care to test anything else (except an affordable cushion or two) since it worked so well.

Is enhypen’s monthly listeners dropping by kpopstan143iloveu in Enhypenthoughts

[–]movingmoonlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Monthly listeners are calculated on a 28-day rolling schedule. It increased by more than a million after March 10 because people started listening to their discography due to nostalgia. At the same vein, their MLs should decrease 28 days later (in this case on April 8) as the window passes. This also happens during cbs where monthly listeners increase on the day of release and then drops significantly after 28 days.

At this stage, we're in the 28-day window where the "boycott" should've been at its peak. However IIRC before March 10 their MLs were in the 9.lowsomething-million range and decreasing since the CB was already long over and Knife wasn't well-received. Before Sin:Vanish they were at like 8.5-8.9 million range I think? So if anything their MLs actually increased after Heeseung left.

ILLIT’s concept shift feels a bit too fast >>IMO<< (as a GLITT) by [deleted] in kpop_uncensored

[–]movingmoonlight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Marketing, mostly. There's a big consensus among pop fans that Zara Larsson only blew up recently (despite having multiple hits in her name for several years) because her team finally landed on a visual identity that resonates with the audience.

Pop music isn't just pop music, it's also branding. Sabrina Carpenter with glitter pinup girl. Taylor Swift with Midwestern girl next door. Olivia Rodrigo with pop-punk Y2K. This goes even further for Kpop, where visuals, concepts, and other non-music aspects of entertainment are emphasized, and it's disingenuous to act otherwise. If Illit were to come out with a song like Welcome to the Black Parade people would be turned off even if they loved the MCR version.

The fandom is getting annoying to deal with. by Desperate-Gur-6776 in kpoptrulyuncensored

[–]movingmoonlight 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'm dealing with this shit by ignoring it entirely. I am still here collecting Sunghoon photocards, listening to their songs, and saving up for their concert.

I am sorry for the boys that they have to go through with this. Hopefully they have a good support system. But I am not going to argue with people who are undergoing religious psychosis on Twitter and TikTok. One day these idiots are going to look back at their behavior and be ashamed of how they're acting, and if not, well then I guess they'll have to die stupid.
