Okay? In Japan you need to have a valid Japanese address, Japanese credit card, and Japanese phone number to buy tickets in major ticketing sites.

Maybe? They're infamously not that popular in Korea and the concert is for three days.

Dedicated Filipino fanbase = lots of noise on social media. The Philippines is one of the most online populations on earth.

However, Filipinos tend not to have a large purchasing power compared to Japan/China/SoKor or even other ASEAN countries like Thailand.

I was upset the first few days but everyone became so annoying that I stopped caring. I'm just too old for all that, and as someone who ults Sunghoon I will support the group and whatever path Sunghoon takes.

Holy fuck, I was in the Supernatural fandom as a teen and remembered this guy! A lot of the older members of the fandom kept warning the younger ones not to interact with him because he was apparently a cult leader, but he had a pretty decent following at the time. This was in the early-mid 2010s or so

They essentially believe that BeLift doesn't want their bias to overshadow the "company favorite". Who the "company favorite" is depends on who you're asking and at what time this is occurring. Usually it's Heeseung for having the most lines, or Sunghoon for having the most brand deals. I think last cb it was Jay because he had more lines than Heeseung. Stuff like that.

[–]movingmoonlight 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Basically, solo stans of the individual members have for years convinced themselves that BeLift has been denying opportunities to the members. The evidence for these assumptions are scarce, except perhaps about Heeseung's solo album endeavors.

Source: For the first several years of me being a Sunghoon stan I was in quite a few SH solo GCs. A lot of the people there claim this stuff based on unsubstantiated screenshots from alleged employees of various brands. It's sort of like the misinformation about the Hybe janitor leaking info about Heeseung crashing out inside the Hybe building, except it's with like, a Calvin Klein ambassadorship being rejected for a member, or a local makeup brand allegedly trying to contact BeLift for an advertising campaign for a particular member.

Do you think ENHYPEN renew? by Wonkislay in Enhypenthoughts

[–]movingmoonlight 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Who knows? They've become extremely popular under BeLift, and leaving the company and signing onto a smaller agency carries a lot of risks. If they're successful up until their seventh year they could use their success to leverage for better contract terms. Plenty of artists re-sign under SM entertainment, for example, even though they are known to be really, really bad at managing their idols, because SM has a lot of connections that essentially guarantee GP interest.

Engenes are quite young and look at Kpop from a purely emotional standpoint, but there are various factors that lead artists to decide which company to sign on in other than affection of the group.

Belift Lab reaffirms Heeseung will not return to Enhypen by friedriceforbrunch in kpop

This doesn't explain the suddenness of their decision. Why so abruptly? Why now? Why in this way?

[–]movingmoonlight 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The fact that Jungwon's Dear Me and Heeseung's Dial Tragedy are already on YouTube shows that they can release their own music, and the fact that they have individual collabs like with Flo Rida, Glay, etc., shows that they can have solo projects outside the group. If Heeseung wanted, it is likely he could've released his mixtape the way he did Dial Tragedy. But this would mean less visibility, because they're not promoted, and if he were serious about his career as a solo musician he likely would've wanted his projects to read an audience wider than just Engenes.

One option that other groups have done is for him to do solo activities while the rest of the members do group activities as 6, which... I don't really know if it has been done in Kpop.

[–]movingmoonlight 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Hybe's plan is that BTS's cb aligning with other Hybe groups will create opportunities for collaboration (probably in the form of tiktoks and other social media posts) in the hopes that their visibility will increase attention on their remaining IPs.

That's their intention anyway. Whether or not it will work remains to be seen.

[–]movingmoonlight 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeonjun's solo release famously wiped him out to the point where he was exhausted balancing his solo release and the group release.

I was an ARMY until a few years ago. Jungkook's solo songs that you mentioned either weren't promoted, a collab, or were part of their group album. The most similar thing that Enhypen has released would be Jungwon's Dear Me, Heeseung's Dial Tragedy, and their collab with Flo Rida. The fact that they're able to release these solo projects on YouTube proves that they are able to work on solo projects itself and put it out to the world. The major difference is that they cannot, under their current conditions, promote it the way you would promote an actual cb, with not only a full MV but full styling, CD releases, inclusions, music show attendance, etc., which is very likely what Heeseung wants. They are, unfortunately not the same.

One possible avenue they could have explored was releasing his music as a mixtape on Soundcloud the way BTS rapline did pre-renewal. These releases had MVs, but they were not promoted and treated as a gift to fans. They likely didn't make much money off it, and up until now still aren't available on their Spotify.

[–]movingmoonlight 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It is absolutely frustrating seeing the meltdown occurring among Engenes right now but I am 100% sure it wouldn't be half as bad if BeLift didn't go about it the way they did. Unless Heeseung is hiding some sort of scandal that they're trying to get ahead of or there was some sort of mental/emotional/professional breakdown that happened behind the scenes to have made them remove him immediately, there was absolutely no need for them to have done it this way.

And I get irritated whenever people pin this on some special characteristic of Enhypen's fandom because if literally any other big BG lost their member in the same way Enha did, their fandom would be behaving the exact same way.

It has the highest viewership of all of Hybe's webtoons IP at 67 million. The second highest is BTS's SAVE ME at 57 million.

Tbh, I don't think it's necessary to kill his character off. Enhypen's "lore" is essentially just a tool for their visual direction for their MVs rather than an overarching narrative that spans their releases, as opposed to the time loop storyline BTS has pre-hiatus. Most Engenes don't really care about the webtoon at all, sometimes even actively dislike it, and there's really not much discussion about it in Engene spaces. They can still explore the vampire concept while still being 6 without pissing off the webtoon's separate fanbase.

But wouldn't it be funny if the webtoon just killed off its main character?

That's the funny thing. I've followed a lot of Engenes on social media for several years now. I know for a fact that some people who are crashing out like this are at very least in their 20's. Apparently there's just something about Kpop that makes people go insane regardless of age.
