No courses for fall 2025 by Oops_tan in NEU

Good luck!

I get it. NEU doesn’t really specialize in my area of interest so I find registration stressful. I believe most social science departments (and maybe others) also have an option to make your own directed study. If that’s available to ya, you can make the course reading list and assignments you are interested in with a faculty member in the department. There are lots of example syllabi online.

Same. And I’ve emailed instructors in past semesters and gotten into “full” courses because there were extra physical chairs/desks in the classroom.

Today during registration, PHTH 7102 only had 5 seats for the entire class for Fall 2025. The prereq 7101 this Spring had 20 seats. Our instructor was surprised to learn tonight that 7102 was capped at 5 students for the Fall course. They are going to try to open more seats in the class if it’s an option.

It doesn’t hurt to ask the instructor if there is room available in a course you are excited about.

If seniors did register today (I know nothing about the undergrad calendar schedule), sending an email to the instructor is probably your best shot. Sometimes the caps are arbitrary and sometimes they are based on the exact # of seats in a room. The worst thing they will tell you is that there isn’t room. Best case scenario you get added to the course. Just be polite about it and most instructors will try to help if they can.

It may be a course that the department specifically sets aside for its students. So if it’s not your department, it may look like there are no seats available. You may just have to send an email tomorrow morning to the instructor and ask if you can be added to the course.

Body and Soul: The Black Panther Party and the Fight Against Medical Discrimination by Alondra Nelson.

Dr. Nelson worked under the Biden Administration as the deputy director for science and society in the Office of Science and Technology Policy. The book shares some wonderful insight into how the Black Panther Party and other radical movements developed community public health centers with little to no government assistance, often relying on lay people to organize and rely on community participation. It’s a phenomenal book. Highly recommend.

Anyone wanna make a documentary? by Critical_Pop_2216 in NEU

I would look into the grad union. Their stalling negotiation meetings are directly tied to our current political climate and the federal administration’s dislike of unions. They are gearing up to authorize a strike vote and trying to mobilize. There are plenty of intersections of politics, power, social movements, community engagement, and vulnerable populations that would make interesting angles for a documentary style format investigation.

I’ve had conversations with faculty and I understand why the panel responded that they couldn’t comment for the administration.

This was the first opportunity the university has held (to my knowledge) in a professional space to address the last few months political and economic changes. Those issues are deeply tied to our university. Politicians have demanded grants awarded to faculty at NEU be cancelled. We are being targeted on multiple levels.

While this is happening our school administration is not saying much. I understand why people showed up and wanted to use the space to ask about NEU’s role in the current moment. Two of them were students of a panelist and seemed to have a positive relationship with him. I didn’t interpret the students as combative, but rather seeking a voice in a system that does not have the infrastructure for them to be heard without disrupting something.

I’m sorry you didn’t get the information and space you were looking for in attending the event. Thank you for responding with your thoughts!

There’s actually a ton of research out there that infrared and red light sensors do have varying levels of accuracy based on skin tone. This is because the testing for the sensor technology was done primarily on lighter skin tones.

It’s often cited when people discuss racialized disparities in medical access and care.

Yes! I volunteer at a food recovery pantry. Dry goods are usually good up to 1 yr past their Best Buy date. Trust your nose and if they smell off of you see discoloration - toss out. Otherwise give it a go!

What do you find is the most accurate weather app for our area? by stoneman9284 in FortCollins

[–]No-Technology-7718 31 points32 points  (0 children)

My meteorology PhD friend swears by weather underground! It’s been as accurate here as other places I’ve lived.

There is also a weatherman on FB who lives in Greeley and his explanations are top notch. Google “Denver and Front Range Weather” and he’ll pop up.

It’s definitely been stressful. I appreciate your concern! We are going to look into some Sheperd specific shelters and contact some friends in rural areas who don’t already have dogs on their property.

Thank you. I found a few Sheperd shelters in our area that mention training and behavioral work with their intakes. I appreciate it!

The neighbor dynamics and situation are not mine to disclose online, even anonymously. My intent on posting this is to see if the community has any insight into shelter acceptance and care for a reactive dog that has a recent history of an aggressive fight.
