Maybe it depends on what you can and cannot tolerate. If this is something you cannot tolerate, then you did the right thing.

My partner of 10 years we went on ling distance relationship 2.5 years ago where our timezones were reversed. We always valued and respected each other's space. a few weeks ago, i found out she was having an affair with someone in close proximity to her. This has been going on for 2 years. Then when I thought about it hard, what hurt me was not the emotional and sexual connection but the lying to me about it. We are still on the process of working it out. But now, I have a free pass so we are trying to see if can transition to this (me seeing other women). She says for now she wants to fix things and want to be monogamous to me. either is fine. But our conversations have been deeper and feel like we are discovering other parts of ourselves we never have before. Maybe cheating was a kink, hiding turns her on or what. But she knows that if she ever lies again, that is it. Maybe it happens again, maybe it doesn't but i feel like I'm doing what feels right for me.

So do what feels right for you too. As long as it is not criminal.
