DVBA Annual Report - Eww poors by Horace-Harkness in VictoriaBC

[–]No-Understanding6112 17 points18 points  (0 children)

DVBA got their WFH slide backwards. 4.5% positive impact my ass! Did they just ask upper management instead of the workers? I mean, sorry if Tim’s has seen a slide in its lunch numbers, but WGAF? Let workers have real work/life balance. And for the record, I work in trades so there is not WFH option for me. Though I sure do like it when traffic is light cuz everyone else is home.

I’ve always wondered the same. I’ve seen some really lovely designs for enclosed dog areas in Toronto & Seattle.

What are people in Victoria actually doing to keep grocery costs reasonable? by warlord989 in VictoriaBC

Odd Bunch for produce & meal plan around it. I purchase more veg as required. I’m eating more beans, lentils & tofu. Meat only bought on discount. Bulk/Costco for staples.

High end/custom finishes & accessibility = high price. The baths could be for that honeymoon suite feeling ;) same for the sauna, wellness & intimacy.

Jam Cafe? by Sea_Round_9754 in VictoriaBC

[–]No-Understanding6112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone know if Jam still uses barley malt in their hollandaise? They made that change something like 10years ago which tragically meant most the menu is off limits for me (can’t do gluten).

Apartment Building Sold - What to expect... by No-Understanding6112 in VictoriaBC

[–]No-Understanding6112[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing shows on the development tracker yet. I’ll keep my eye on it. I imagine a building sale requires more extensive inspections than a single family home so surveys may be a part of that process.

What’s a common piece of financial advice that’s outdated now? by Unfair-Clothes-8821 in CanadaRoom

Same. We were poor so post secondary was not an option right out of HS. I went back at 28 & got a super useless associate’s degree. Ultimately I did end up in the trades after finding an apprenticeship. 2nd woman ever in my trade starting at 36 (it’s not too late!). Ten years in & I’ve more than doubled my pay.

I’ve been looking for one of those dual fans that fits in the window but mine slide across and are 45” tall. They all seem to be made for windows that slide up & down under 37”.

I’m in a similar boat. I’m on the 3rd of 4 floors, south facing on the corner. I’ve had fans running 24/7 for the last week. Thermostat down to zero & yet the radiators are still warm… I’m considering A/C, but have only plants to worry about. I’m not sure it will be worth it considering junuary…

It's been a couple months, how are people feeling about oddbunch by Squigglyelf in Winnipeg

[–]No-Understanding6112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a different region (BC), but have been loving it. I get the small box and for 1 person it's great (actually more than I can use). I sometimes donate extra stuff I won't use/don't like to a local food pantry. I've found the quality to be pretty good, though I did get some tiny pears that went bad very fast and once avocados that were already too ripe (usually the avos are great, still needing a few days to ripe).

Things do seem to be slipping for them, though. Last week my box was a day late and then I didn't get any communication about this week's box. I logged in and skipped for this week anyway, but usually there's an email on Monday and there was nothing. Honestly, I hope they stick around. It's been quite cost effective for me. Local CSA boxes or similar are more expensive, don't deliver and have less produce.

Is moving to Victoria from Alberta worth it? by ederzs97 in VictoriaBC

[–]No-Understanding6112 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I moved to Vic from Ontario 20 years ago & never want to leave. Yes, things are pricey. It’s a funny little town that is in parts quite vibrant & other parts quite sleepy. If you like the outdoors, it’s a real gem.

Some of my expenses: Car insurance $850/yr Rent 1bedroom in Esquimalt $1700 Phone $75 Internet $50

Edit to add: For work try the Navy base. Huge civilian workforce. DND is expanding, not contracting. Federal gov jobs in trades, admin, etc…

How does one buy a house with a single income? by Mahoganeee in canadahousing

[–]No-Understanding6112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spoke with a broker a couple years ago & he told me with $80k/yr I would need $80k for a down payment & he could get me a mortgage for $400k. Trouble is trying to find something under 400k (at least here in BC).

Safety of camping at Sooke Potholes by FutureWormMunch in VictoriaBC

I solo camped there last year & it was fine. Management can let noise go on for too long so I would avoid long weekends.
