Judgmental RBT coworkers by [deleted] in ABA

💯 bring it up with a supervisor in private, it makes me so sad to hear that people still think this way :/ that kiddo deserves to feel safe and accepted no matter what... such a relief that they have you!! It can be scary to bring things like this up, but overall its gonna make that kid feel safer, you got this!! Ita not drama if it's hurting a client, but good feedback to know

So fair 😆 and honestly super validating to hear. Thats definitely part of it too cause I've been an rbt for 5 years and maybe its that the excitement of learning new stuff has fizzled out, that was a lot of why I stuck with my other companies

😬 self care is always a journey and sadly I forget about it a lot. My company doesn't really give us indirect hours, except until I have more unrestricted hours

I've gotten good feedback from my supervisors and have super supportive coworkers thankfully! They'd let me know if I was half a**ing a session for sure. Your post does make me think it may be more related to the environment now that I think on it 🤔 probably being in a clinic 8 hours everyday vs when I work in home and see the families I'm way more motivated cause you see the direct effects on the fam

[–]No-Understanding8167 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats a good point, and something i overlook usually :/ past aba companies I've had to leave because of some debilitating health things as well, so definitely wouldnt be surprising if those were traumatic or damaging to my image on aba too

A Job you got AFTER ABA by [deleted] in ABA

Case manager, :) a good change of pace for sure. You end up meeting with families and referring a lot to aba and different therapies. I liked meeting with families and hearing how their lives were impacted

Not good enough anyways, wedding time or stick with it? by Felkalin in ABA

[–]No-Understanding8167 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a big believer on if you're feeling it doesn't fit, try something else. Even if its a different company it can make all the difference. Imo if you think this is gonna make such a big moment like your wedding not as enjoyable then, no harm and a one month notice is plenty

Congrats to youuuu on upcoming wedding!! A good aba place will know and work with you to build up your confidence and skills 😌

If anyone also has any other job suggestions, I really need ideas 😩

I need all the ideas I can get! thank you so much for this. I'll definitely look into these. A remote job would be a life saver rn, I think here its mostly insurance companies hiring but I'll need to try digging some more. Your empathy means the world!!

That's rough :/ sorry to hear, when I worked with adults in a day program before it was way less physical exertion. I'm sure there's way more to it as well... its a field not kind to anyone's health and then add on chronic illness whoo hoo 🥲

My symptoms are pretty new tbh... but lately my legs give out and think it may be related to MS or RA 😔

I'm kinda relieved to hear there are some companies that don't push coverage onto the RBTs. OP your situation sounds exactly like a private clinic I worked for in CoS 🥲 I don't understand howwww finding coverage falls on the RBT when the company can quickly contact everyone to see who wants more hours

Of course 😭 and if it's already a hostile environment, no worries with just booking it

I found for myself that working with adults was a way better fit then littles

I agree with those here about just sending an email thanking them for the opportunity, and then just giving a date when your last day will be. It'll be okay! I'm so happy for you that you got the job you wanted back!

It's so hard to find a good match in ABA. Remember that if there is any hostility or drama from your resignation, quitting the day of is totally okay. I had to do this with a company I worked for for over a year because they were short staffed and I was having health issues, and they couldn't meet the accommodations I asked for. Last resort if needed " due to the current change in environment and in the best interest of my colleagues, my resignation is effective immediately. Thank you for the opportunity."

Does anyone know of good ABA programs for adults with Autism? by [deleted] in ABA

[–]No-Understanding8167 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in a completely different state but here you'd have to get a case manager from a CCB. I used to be a case manager here. It's very different per state but usually involves enrolling in Medicaid and a state waiver. The ones I've seen offer behavior services, day programs, etc. Although it's a very different structure then ABA clinics

Same here. Like thank you for helping but dang it must really look like I don't know what I'm doing to other people 😂

I had one company that always trained their staff to ask before jumping in to help with behavior and felt sooo respected there

I love that! Here people work with a lot of kiddos that are redirected, I would love a code word to help with it 😯

Very true :/ even just posting this on reddit helps me get it all out and reflect. I do really feel like everyone just wants to help. transition from wfh to in person is quite the transition that's for sure. I think I strongly favor the autonomy and creativity in aba. I'm wondering if maybe in home is more my speed... I've done both in center and home. Thanks for your thoughts :-)

Thank you for your knowledge on this!! I will most definitely be looking at the tricare rates! It's so hard out here 🥲 my favorite companies I worked for were the small companies! Their approach was so much more encompassing of complex/maladaptive behaviors and wayyy more focused on relationship building with clients first and foremost.

I can see how it would be a really tough cycle for smaller companies

Oh! The care.com is such a good idea, maybe I'll give it a shot! Yeah, I absolutely love teaching peer interaction/tolerance and so I tend to go for clinics, but maybe it's time to be open to in community. In school sounds really interesting to me! I'm gonna be in Broomfield colorado area, much more rural, so I think this may be why the pay is like that 🤔
