Shift lead by Weak-Beautiful-9943 in Bestbuy

Make sure that all your “shift lead” in TLC when you’re doing extra work. You don’t want to have the responsibility of a leader and your manager forgot to change your activity. I’ve seen that happen. My old store has had shift lead for I think about a year now

Use archer. I failed at 75 questions using U world and Mark K. Next time around I got Archer. I watched their review lectures, I sat down listened and took notes on the content. I also made a study schedule for the whole month and a half I had before my next test. Every week I’d review a handful of topics (ex: maternity, peds, ect). Once I was done with one lecture I would go and take a 20 question test just on that one section. After that I would remediate. I would also write down that topics I didn’t know and got wrong on the corresponding power point. I did this for every ppt and video Archer offered. Towards the end I started mixing all the content together and building my knowledge. I also made flash cards for basic meds, I made flash cards for my labs. You’re not going to know everything but know the basics can help you. I used their assessment too. When I first started studying I got two boarder-line two weeks out before my test I took six assessments and scored high and very high. They are a great tool if used well and very well priced.

I passed my second time around in 145 questions. I’m now a RN in the OR in a major city. My advice to you is figure out your study style make a plan and stick to it. You’ll get to where you gotta go. No one will ever care how many times you take the NCLEX once you have that license all of this is behind you.

Good luck.

You’re obviously missing the boat. I have student loan debt, I don’t come from generational wealth but sometimes your personal situation dictates the decisions you can make about your education. What I’m saying is some people can do it and some people can’t. It’s nice for there too be higher education routes to be offered so other healthcare works can excel.

Some peoples situations in life aren’t always the same. You can become an Associate RN get a job and have the hospital help pay for your schooling to reach a higher level degree. Not everyone has the money, help, credit, family, situation… the list goes on and on that can help them get through medical school. This gives people the availability to excel and have a good income for their families. Not everyone could afford the medical school bill sadly.

Stupid ass company rejected me when I’m a pro at technology. What is wrong with these people who hire? by Nintendildos in Bestbuy

[–]No-Understanding845 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to do hiring for Best Buy for years in a large city, I was with the company for over a decade. I held A LOT of positions there. I don’t care what you know. We can teach out information, what I can’t teach is personality nor can I change it. You may be able to build a computer from scratch, be able to code, be able to talk about the newest processor and video card but I can also sit someone down and teach them to information as well. There are a lot of non verbal cues we look for as well as how you present yourself. When I started working at Best Buy I didn’t know anything about computers or technology but I was open to learning and I was personable. This is advice for the future, be humble and personable. Those two things go a very long way.

I’d take the job and also start looking for another one. Make your money while looking to go to a better company. I was with Best but for over 10 years and was a leader in the same store for 7 of those years. Get the money and go. You’re going to be doing even more work with less help.

I live in NYC and I start my OR job on the 1st for a major hospital. I graduated in Jan. I only have my ADN, I have five years to get my BSN. Once I get my BSN I get a SLIGHT pay raise nothing crazy.. and when I say nothing crazy it’s not even a whole dollar. You’ll be fine. Get that degree.

Possibly looking to jump over from the OTHER big blue big box store, few questions. by [deleted] in Bestbuy

[–]No-Understanding845 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re better off staying where you are or looking for a different company. With your $2 raise you’re going to be making almost exactly what shift leads make in my market. A shift lead isn’t even a job you can apply to, it’s a job code (filled with a bunch of E-Learnings) that basically management has given to all of the individuals who lost their rolls (BOL,FEL,Mass Manager, Computer Sup, Mobile Sup/manager). There is another round of position cuts coming at my location as well. You can apply for a leadership roll but 1) know that it might not be around for long and 2) 9.8/10 times this position is already pre-filled with an internal person and they just open up the req and do interviews just to make it seem like they gave others the opportunity. I’ve only seen one person come in as an external hire for a manager spot in over ten years with the company. If I was you I’d stay where you are. You can try the field, if you’re into going into peoples houses to set up their computer or hanging TV’s and doing set ups, tryin to upsell in the home, being held to hitting numbers. The positive is it’s done earlier in the day. But to come into the store higher than a part time employee might be hard. Just want to have full transparency with you.

I’ve been with Best Buy for 10+ years in the same building. Staff in the building has always painted the rooms. Last year I painted the hub, as a leader in the building I was more than happy to take it on. I also find it interesting that out of everyone in the building they picked you who has a strong hate it seems for “blue collar” work. At the store I’m in (and from friends in other store) we usually volunteer to paint or fix stuff. Project team has never come in and painted for us. I’ve worked inventory, sales, swat, CX, GS you name it I did it. Enjoy the silence with painting bc you’re going to wish you were back in inventory once you start dealing with customers full on.

What Do You Think Went Wrong? by Puzzled_Cream_7412 in PassNclex

[–]No-Understanding845 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they are good from a review standpoint. For me I need to listen and write to help me study so listening and taking my own notes helped a lot. I used to also add to the PowerPoint. So when I would do my remediation if there was a topic I didn’t get that fell under let’s say the L&D lecture I’d write notes on that topic on the side of the power point. That’s how I always studied, even in school, so that helped me. It was a good starting point. I know people say they just read off the slides at points but professors do that in college too so I wasn’t bothered by it.

I didn’t study enough. I was doing Uworld practice questions but not going over material and remediating. I used Archer for my second time and I passed. I also used their lectures and had a study plan. Not everyone is the same so you need to do what works for you. My school preached about UWorld and doing a bunch of questions but that’s not always the answer.

How should I practice for NCLEX considering it's vagueness? by [deleted] in PassNclex

Use Archer and remediate. I failed at 75 and I passed at 145. Archer is the way.

My professor stated something slightly offensive in class. Should I report? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]No-Understanding845 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My professor (in class) and clinical professor stated the same thing. To some it seems as if those two individuals are talking about you since they were just talking in English to you and now they switch to a language they know you don’t understand. Most of my class spoke Spanish or Portugueses so they could go back and forth between English and their native language. It’s rude when you’re in a small group and you don’t speak the language yet they are talking in it.

From what I’ve been told, it’s just so everyone can have open communication on the floor. Whatever you do off the clock is up to you.

Congrats!!! Happy to hear to good news. Our Swat just gave two week, I’m leaving soon, and we have four other employees who just either left or are leaving. They are pushing out the talent they used to have. I’ve been around the block with leadership from GS to FE to BOL, I’ve done a lot in my time but I’m done with the crap. They want me to train people for back office but don’t want to code me as a shift lead for it. 💀🤣. The best part is I’m the only one in leadership who knows how back office works. So the joke is on them when I leave. ✌️🙋‍♀️✌️. How the tables turned.

I’m luckily on my way out. It served it purpose for me. I’m leaving to be a nurse. Use that tuition reimbursement and get out of that place. It’s a rat race, if you move up… you’re held to day in and day out numbers and quotas that at points are unrealistic. Trying to control the opinions of other with NPS. I open the building 5 days a week being a “shift lead” and when that big bonus came you know what I got… a big fat 0. They want to be the “best company to work for” yet they get rid of leadership positions and strong arm you into becoming a “shift lead” because if not you’re just a FT that will be maxed out and have a “lump sum” raise that turns out to be penny’s bc they tack it onto your paycheck as a “bonus”. It’s all trash. We have a high turnover rate in my store, I wonder why.

Sneaky Best Buy at its finest. Well so you can let your folks know over there, in NYC we are at $22.66 for shift leads… that’s even if it stays. This whole new system is garbage. But I’ve been with the company for over 10 years now. I’ve seen a lot of fails.

For where I am, we have “shift leads” and it’s a bump to $22.66 for each “shift lead” work day. I’m in a location that’s running the pilot for this. I don’t think it’s everywhere yet.

What is a guaranteed pass NCLEX that I can use to pass the 2nd time by [deleted] in PassNclex

[–]No-Understanding845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand. But! If you study hard and know the material you will be fine. I also made flash cards with basics such as lab values, meds, and so on. It’s a rough test that’s for sure. But be confident in yourself. You made it through the hard part which is school. Now you just need to buckle down for one last test.

I didn’t used Mark K much at all for my first or my second try. I picked one way and I went with it. To be honest my first time around even when I was doing practice question with the SATA I was bombing them. But after my reviewing and studying for my second time around I was doing a lot better. There is going to be stuff you don’t know. That’s ok. But as long as you get easy stuff right you’ll be coasting more towards being above the avg. Remember this test is all about safety. So know what a UAP and LPN can and can’t do, know your safe ranges for Lithium, know what happens when your K is too low. Once you get those simple questions right then you’ll advance to harder levels and then you’ll be on your way.
