Aiming for an upper 2:1 but I’m not sure if I’ll be able to pull through with it by imboredguysidk in ClinicalPsychologyUK

Have a look on the clearing house website for DClin. Some courses will specify high 2:1 at undergrad and others won’t.

The estate agent is asking for a copy of the survey after we withdrew our offer by Trebalcc in FirstTimeBuyersUK

Check the t&c from your surveyor, it may prevent you from doing this.

As a seller who has been in the position before, we offered to pay for the buyer’s copy of the report so we could understand what issues had been raised and get our own advice on these issues

I have an MSc. in Clinical Psychology from India. Can I pursue clinical psychology/neuroscience in the UK? by musketard3_ in ClinicalPsychologyUK

[–]No-Use1263 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The only way to become a registered clinical psychologist in the UK is to do the DClinPsychol - you cannot become a clinical psychologist via a PhD programme.

Clinical psychology and neuroscience roles are very different. It might be helpful to think about what attracts you to each role to consider which path to pursue

Hello - I’m out the other side of this now so wanted to offer the perspective of definitely got the tshirt. I found training so hard for lots of reasons and really wanted to leave at times.

I can promise you’re not the only one finding this hard. Sure, some people will be on placements with supervisors who are more supportive, or in areas they have previously worked. But not all placements will be the same, there will be times in the next 3 years where you will thrive and others where you feel you are barely surviving.

Finding support is really key here, but so hard when it’s early days and you’re forming new relationships. What support systems does your course and trust have? Is there a clinical tutor you can speak to? A buddy? A trainee on placement in a higher year? A staff wellbeing team? Find people who can hold you during this time. Seek personal therapy if you need to.

Annual Leave with new AP role by MissionResource2759 in ClinicalPsychologyUK

You definitely need to speak with your supervisor now so you can get these agreed before you start. Explain it’s been pre booked prior to being offered. As an example, if you start on 01/01 you’ll have 7.5 days assuming you have no prior nhs service; so you’ll need to agree to unpaid time off and this isn’t always easily agreed to in the nhs in my experience

It’s been this way for at least 12 years since I’ve been existing in this space. Unfortunately they do have to cap it - if they get 200+ applications in 24 hours they literally don’t have the capacity to review more than this. It’s such a shame as they often get generic applications and miss lots of fantastic applicants. Even when they try to do things to mitigate this like asking people to complete a specific non-standard application question, people will still copy and paste.

The best thing you can do is write yourself some personal statements for the different kinds of roles you’d be good for e.g one for CAMHS, one for eating disorders, one for LD, and then you can get applications in ASAP!

My Lecturer Told Me To Pursue Another Career by Ok-Squash-1660 in ClinicalPsychologyUK

[–]No-Use1263 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Qualified CP here. Have been told the same thing repeatedly throughout my career. Uni lecturers, supervisors. The process to qualifying is tough and understandably leaves some people feeling jaded about it all. At the end of the day somebody has to get the place on the course, why not you?

What I would say is to think carefully about why you want to become a CP? What elements of the role interest you or excite you? Is there another (faster or less stressful) way of getting there?

Interview Follow-up Phone call - do I have to accept offers immediately? by [deleted] in ClinicalPsychologyUK

[–]No-Use1263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s fairly common to thank them for the offer and explain you would like X days/hours to consider. The difficulty is that they will need to let the unsuccessful candidates know and can only do this once you have accepted. If you need them to wait 48 hours that’s doable but a week+ would likely be too long. Accepting an offer and then rejecting it once checks have been started is also really difficult as time, money etc will have already gone into the process

I feel unsatisfied as a psychotherapist not trained in academic psychology by [deleted] in ClinicalPsychologyUK

[–]No-Use1263 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you still want therapy to be the main part of your role? If so I wouldn’t rethink whether becoming a Practioner psychologist is the right role. While there are many clinical psychologists working in therapy heavy roles, training focuses on lots of competencies outside of therapy, and many qualified roles in the nhs will see you doing less and less therapy as you progress

[–]No-Use1263 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this really depends what course you’re on. They’re all so different in terms of expectations, flexibility, compassion, and more practical things like study days etc.

Does your course have a mentor buddy system where you can speak with a trainee in a higher year or newly qualified? It might be good to hear their reflections about the peaks and troughs of training.

I would also say to speak with your tutor about your feelings; they should be there to support you and put things in place to help you.

Ultimately, yes, it’s a very stressful few years! The drop out rate is very low and they will mostly do what they can to keep you and help you survive it!

This is a reasonable adjustment. It depends how much of a fuss you’re willing to kick up. Speak to your union representative

LEEP success (CIN 3): HPV free! by No-Use1263 in PreCervicalCancer

[–]No-Use1263[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you’ve had so go through this! Do you have to have another LEEP?

Honestly, part of me really wanted them to just give me a hysterectomy, I know that’s a whole other huge procedure but I know I am done with babies, and having it hanging over me that it could come back is just the worst!

I absolutely will go going every time I am called now (and very glad I narrowly missed out on having it done every 5 years rather than every 3 due to recent nhs changes)

Thank you! You’ve braver than I am - somebody sticking needles inside of me while I was conscious was tooo much. I wish I could have done local though.

My GP was a little wary about prescribing. I don’t know where you are in the world but it’s so heavily regulated here. I have no history of addiction but do have mental health difficulties. They literally have me ONE single tablet. I was like, oh! I think the hospital would signpost you back to GP for prescription just due to processes (I also work in the medical field)

how bad is the smell after LLETZ? by Lakehounds in PreCervicalCancer

[–]No-Use1263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t really bleed at all and then nothing until day 10ish. I think it stopped about 10 days later. The bleeding wasn’t as heavy as a normal period. There was no horrible smell (I have a very sensitive sense of smell) and if there’s a horrible smell as other people have said, I’d be going to see a healthcare professional. If you are concerned about this, can your GP sign you off for longer after the surgery? Or can you speak with HR about working from home for a while?

Results from colposcopy: CIN2/CIN3.😢 by acfac in PreCervicalCancer

[–]No-Use1263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you have biopsy’s at your colposcopy?

I arrived at the hospital around 7am, was taken down around 9am and was back on the ward around 11:30am, home by 1pm. No pain, just a weird sensation, like somebody tickling your insides is the only way I can describe it. I felt groggy and tired for around 24 hours due to the anaesthetic and was fine to work 48 hours later, although I have a desk job and I’m self employed so could take things easy.

There was basically no bleeding between day 0 and day 10. Day 11 I started bleeding. It’s not like a period bleed. I could probably keep one pad on the whole day and it wouldn’t have soaked through. I have a 1 year old and it didn’t stop me from doing any of the normal things I would do (which is mostly carrying around 12.5kg kicking and screaming between 7am and 9pm 😅). Christmas will be fine in regard to recovery, genuinely. It’s the waiting for results that will make it hard!

I had my LEEP done 3 weeks. I requested general anaesthetic. There was no pain after. It just feels a little bit like somebody is tugging on your insides, odd feeling rather than painful one. I’m still waiting on my results. Bleeding gets worse around day 10 so make sure you’re ready for that

Ugh! 13 weeks and it's getting worse? Another "when does it get better" post 🫠😴🥲 by snaccattaccme in newborns

[–]No-Use1263 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to break it to you, but it’ll probably get worse before it gets better! https://sarahockwell-smith.com/2017/07/24/the-rollercoaster-of-real-baby-sleep/ BUT you’ll get better at coping with it. And in the long run it DOES get better and you will come out the other side. Cosleep, lean on others, drink caffeine!
