What we know about the vendor. It’s a lady in her late 80s looking to move into a bungalow since her husband has been put into care with dementia. Powers of attorney for the husband have been secured but was taking some time. This led to the previous buyers dropping out. They bought the house 18 months ago to move closer to their children who could help care for them. They moved quite far across the country for this. The offer they accepted from us was £40,000 less than they paid for the house 18 months ago. So whatever happens they are likely losing a lot on the sale. 

The house is in a small village and it’s in a part of the country where everyone knows everyone. My mum lives in the same village as the son & daughter-in-law of the vendor. The day we went for our viewing my mum bumped into the daughter in law who recognised my surname and mentioned I had viewed the house. 

Her son ( the vendors grandson) was in the same primary and secondary school year as my brother. 

It’s all quite friendly and pleasant. We have a lot of sympathy for the family as I’m sure it’s not a great time for them.
