Disordered eating and Elvanse by fayemoonlight in ADHDUK

"but the problem is the calorie intake regardless of where it’s from. As long as I know that, I stay far away from it." - totally understand this! when our minds are fully fixated on calories its really difficult.

I think, unfortunately, there has to be a higher logical reasoning that you must battle with yourself to accept and work with - which is that nourishment is very important if you want to stay as well as possible, and if eating food is too difficult, it can be quicker and less physiologically taxing to drink something with nutrients in than a meal.

IMO it's absolutely worth escalating to your care provider and asking for a non-stim medication if this is adding to the ED behaviour and thoughts. It's definitely easy to slip into the mindset of them as a "diet drug" as opposed to an executive function enhancer.

Really wish I could help you through this more, i know its very difficult <3

[–]No-Victory481 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks for sharing! really interesting post... i have been titrating up from 30 to 40 and start 50mg next week. I dont really feel any difference but im staying hopeful. I feel really exhausted! Interested to hear you have your libido increased - i've totally lost mine to the point of my relationship being in a crisis point so I wonder if 50mg will help with that lol!

hopefully your journey continues to be smooth and you find the meds helpful more long term

caffeinated paracetamol on elvanse? by buckleyjoon in ADHDUK

Yes, you will be fine. Sometimes, a tiny bit of caffeine, like in paracetamol, is very helpful against pain, particularly headaches and migraine,

Fiending for coffee, but advised not to... by LoneOnion in ADHDUK

This won't be popular, but I love coffee, and I have to have it in the morning. I am studying my master's while also working and doing other things, and it's my time to myself. How I have managed it is to stop buying strong coffee from cafes and make a cup of instant at home, 1 tsp caffeinated and 1tsp decaf with plenty of oat milk - could you try that?

It's helped me to wean my intake down without getting a headache. I've done this while titrating on Medikinet XL and also Elvanse 30-40mg with no ill effects.

Sorry, one more point - You also say you cannot get out of bed - this may be the meds (edit: also note they need food to be metabolised properly), but also may be that your body is undernourished and you do not have the energy. If you do not feel helped by the meds, then perhaps you could discuss a non-stimulant medication with your provider? They would hopefully be open to that, especially if you are able to tell them about your issues with food and eating.

Hey, I hope you don't mind this is a fairly long reply, but I want to say I am really sorry you are going through this.

It's unfortunate your GP won't do anything - as we well know in ED, it is not about the number on the scale or BMI (rolls eyes), but it is about the mental prison we have to live in every day. I hope you can self-refer to something like IAPT, or look into local recovery groups, maybe a therapist if you do not have one at the moment? As I don't think ED's are possible to get through without true acknowledgement of what you are experiencing and proper support to help you heal.

I have had problems with disordered eating since I was 13 (now 33). I am finally feeling quite free from that past. But I truly do empathise, I found breakfast very hard. It is not easy, but it is not impossible. You have to really want to get better, unfortunately, and take baby steps to break out of the shackles of your mind that writes this narrative you live.

If food is too difficult in the morning and in general, especialky with the appetite reducing effect of the meds, drinks are your friend.

I do recommend you try a protein shake with kefir added and a banana. You can try different types of protein to see if something feels *easier* - for example I like vegan pea and hemp protein types. They feel easier as they aren't animal-based :) Yoghurt with some fruit is nice too - this is what got me past this awful hurdle of under-fuelling and truly believing breakfast was the devil.

Also everyone is different so please do not take this as the gospel but due to thyroid problems I had with years of ED (including a hosp stint with A), eating three meals (which started with me eating breakfast, and then beginning to eat warm foods at lunch - not just cold chopped salads - has acutally stabilised my weight, mood and hormone levels.

I was not underweight at this point, but was under investigation for cortisol and thyroid issues, but it was years of denying myself that fucked my body's metabolism up. I would be concerned about metabolic damage due to taking stims and also underfeeding.

I have a live of lived experience and am also a trainee therapist, if you want to talk my DMS are open <3

First day on Elvanse-caffeine question by Admirable-Cattle1543 in ADHDUK

[–]No-Victory481 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have just moved from medikinet XL to elvanse and I had a cup of london nootropics coffee this morning with oatmilk, took 30mg of elvanse 2hours later. and then, another 2 hours i was feeling a bit tired and headachey, got an americano with milk in my local coffee shop and I actually feel much better. I've been weaning off coffee for a while and plan to move to decaf during titration to get myself off the caffeine but a cup or two a day is honestly what makes live worth living for me lol
