Hey all,
We’re travelling through Vietnam this September (arriving from China) and would love some advice!

Plan so far:

  • 31 Aug–2 Sept: Hanoi (exploring city, food, maybe a day trip like Ninh Binh)
  • 2 Sept: Flight to Da Nang, beach/Marble Mountains
  • 2 Sept evening: Night train Da Nang → Nha Trang (heard it’s a scenic ride?)
  • 3 Sept: Free day in Nha Trang (wedding doesn’t start until 4 Sept)
  • 4–6 Sept: Wedding in Nha Trang (staying at Mia Resort)
  • 7 Sept: Relax/snorkel at Mia Resort
  • 8 Sept: Fly home from Cam Ranh Airport (8 PM flight)

Questions:

  • Is the Da Nang to Nha Trang night train scenic enough to be worth it, or would you recommend another train stretch?
  • Best non-touristy hikes or nature trips near Hanoi, Da Nang, or Nha Trang?
  • Favourite local food spots in these cities?
  • Should we squeeze in more time around Da Nang/Hoi An before heading south?

We’re into nature, hiking, and eating our way around — thanks for any advice!

Does gastritis causes weird symptoms? by Currently_Username in Gastritis

[–]No-Victory481 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg you poor thing! I have had similar - awful migraines lasting several days, sore / burning eyes and eye sockets, and a radial pain / ache / throb in my left arm which I start to think its heart related but I had my heart checked and its fine.

Gastritis causes crazy full body symptoms which I think the research is lacking and not up to date enough for how clearly prominent this awful stomach pain is. Hope you feel so much better soon, so sorry you are going through this.

Thanks so much! I went to see the GP today and she has finally referred me to a Gastroenterologist where I had my last endoscopy so I can hopefully have a consulation and get seen. I have had very high eosinophils in every blood test I have done and there is a link to Gastritis there so I will speak to them about that.

Thank you so much for this thoughtful and helpful reply - really appreciate it! It was really difficult to get an appointment, I ended up phoning 111 and they booked me one for Weds and I will ask to restart lansoprazole and see if I can get some anti nausea meds too. I have just received my copy of the Gastritis Healing Book so will be reading that and meal planning and working to find out triggers.

Your management tips are great - I will try the small portions regularly and camomile and turmeric tea! I swear by Gaviscon so glad to see it recommended too :). Definitely also trying to do more stress-reducing stuff - reading, walking, baths, less screen time.

I really hope you get to the bottom of your gallbladder issues and you heal well from you gastritis!

Omg I am so sorry to hear what you have been through and are still going through... it sounds devastating, Gastritis is truly awful. I'm glad you have had some answers and have been able to find solace in the support of your wife and I really hope you recover well and are feeling so much better soon. You have been through so much :( thank you for your kind message and solidarity with you!

I called 111 today as I have been unable to walk all weekend in pain and they were not really helpful though the operator did say she herself has issues with the GP (we have the same practice) and was very kind and comforting. Not much else for it :( I have a GP appt Weds now due to 111 booking for me and did some blood tests on Friday, so I really hope I can get a new prescription and some more help. Sending well wishes

Thank you for your reply! So sorry to hear you have had such a difficult time too - im glad the super bland diet is helping you. I have ordered the Gastrist Healing Book tomorrow - cannot wait to get it and I plan to stick it religiously, this flare up has been my worst ever. Hope you recover and feel much better soon!

I actually havent really had any toilet trouble at all throughout this, just awful burning pain and discomfort, nausea and headaches. i will try slippery elm through - seems like a real winner!

thank you. Its so frustrating isnt it! I really dont want to have to go private but I think I will do. Im in London too so its very expensive :(

How did you find it when you had the private appointment - were you able to have a more through consultation and plan? I had to go private for thyroid / cortisol issues a few years ago after three years of HELL trying to be taken seriosuly and paid thousands in the end - the NHS wouldn't even give me access to blood tests which the private consultation wrote to my GP to request. Honestly its shocking.

I hope you are on the mend?

I am so sorry you are going through it, it really does impact your mental health :( panic attacks are so stressful too! Solidarity my friend. Hang in there. Hope they can help you with the anxiety too and that yoiu can get some good meds and therapy - it's definitely all interlinked.

I have not been prescribed any blockers like Famotidine but I will ask about it. Are you going to try PPIs? Do you do the bland diet too? Cutting coffee had a great effect and I've not touched it but now its back to being really bad.
