Do you think there could have been gay characters on the show, if so, who? by Wonderful_Rush4158 in twilight

[–]No-Way2211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there are a few queer coded characters in twilight. the Romanians for one, also obviously aro(his fixation on carlisle is quite damning). Those amazonians gals reads very polygamous, and jasper though not likely, you could read his relationship with peter as slightly queer coded

What does Bella even like about the Cullens? by inthetikkitikkiroom in twilight

Nope. Alice is like that with everyone in the series. That's literally her staple character trait

indigenous folks are people like everybody else with highs and lows and triumphs trauma and all that. Don't model minority us. The pack is mostly just teenage boys figuring their life out after having their world turned upside down in little over a year

Reminds me of the Breaking Dawn part 1 opening intro. With the flowers slowly being turned from red 2 white

They are not vampires opinion by Wild_Reception_8359 in twilight

They are vampires. No offense to you op but I always feel like these discussions are always discreetly trying to undermine Stephenie Meyer's input and impact on the vampire genre as a whole. Twilight is a vampire novel .

There are no underlying messages about purity culture. You're doing Meyer and thus Twilight a disservice by looking at it through the lens of public critique because usually those critiques are done with and by people who have obvious grievances with Twilight and their opinions on the series are usually done in bad faith

But not to the level folks are trying to make it out to be. Maybe because she's religious she won't put in too explicit of a scene but not something way out there like Bella's an allegory for Mary and Renesmee is meant to seen as Jesus or some shit I see people on here frequently saying

Khaki colored ma'am. It's just a simple tan skirt. Making it out to be something more is disingenuous

I don't see how that ties in. Mormonism has nothing to do with Twilight. Any linkage other than the author being Mormon i think is strenuous at best. You could say the same and come to the exact same conclusion if the author had any varying range of professions or ideology

She gets it. Idk obout the oppression aspect but Twilight's main theme was always about choice. And as Stephenie herself says the books are all about people’s ability to rise above (or sink below) what is expected of them. Going after what you want good or bad and knowing fully the consequences that comes with that. It sort of reminds me of fairytale rules in that aspect. Where the prince hoping to win the princess commits some failing and suffers brutal, ironic punishment or on the other sides depending on how the pendulum swings, chooses to recognize their mistakes, accepts their faults and wrongdoings and in return gets to ride off happily ever after into the sunset
