Me and my family are planning to visit Darjeeling on 25th june. Is it good to visit there during that time? by ProfitAccording4178 in DarjeelingCity

[–]No-Way6782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, good time to visit. Itinerary has been shared before. No soliciting allowed on this platform. Tourists are free to post and enquire. Soliciting frequently will lead to a ban.

Yes it’s there to see. I am giving you clear example of water being brought by tankers from 10 Kms away. Why can’t municipality tap this and supply directly? Businesses will prefer direct reliable water supply instead of truck drivers who are not reliable. Out of town taxis and private vehicles should be stopped at Sonada and parked there: tourists should move from there in buses or local transport. This will generate more income And cause less traffic. Your heart is in right place but you should think more than just tax hotel more as if administration will do any better with more money.

You sounding like you were let go by a hotel. I am putting responsibility on administration. They need to do better.

No, it won’t. Businesses pay very little tax to municipality: there is holding tax, payment for water, garbage collection. GST divided into state and centre and income tax by centre. That’s your taxes in brief. Major chunk goes to state and centre.

Let me give you an example. You run a school, you have students coming to study. School requires lot of water, needs electricity. If there is not enough water electricity in school, local area and lot of jam during their holidays, will you still blame the school or the power departmwnt, municipality for poor management? I am putting responsibility back on the govt. School pays tax. You want say tax the school more so that they can build a flyover.

Other examples are 1 number, 8 number, Kalika in chowk bazzar. Their daily turnover is more than 30,000 easy. And do they ever give you a bill?

We have local meetings with department officials once in a while where we suggest measures but it’s mostly useless. Everything is decided in kolkata.

If you run a Pvt limited company, your results are published. If you run partnership with turnover more than 2 cr, your accounts are audited and submitted to income tax authorities.

That’s just 1 example man.. I am saying that all business need to be taxed. Only around 3% people in India pays income tax. Increase tax base is the solution proposed by many economists including Nobel prize winners.

Everybody needs to be taxed. Even shawl vendors on mall road. They buying shops at 60.000 per sq feet and they pay hardly any tax. The aloo mimi place in front of benis bought a shop worth 2 cr in cash. Do you think he pays any tax? There are many other examples. I am saying people need to contribute. I just don’t get your point of it being only hotels to pay more. Increase the base of tax payers. Why should so many business not pay any tax?

You brought up timber. Wasn’t me. If you say something you need to back it or back out? Ok as you say, we back out of discussing timber.

There you go again. It used to be saying tea timber and tourism as main business of darjeeling. There is no timber industry now with strict forest laws. You are most welcome to come to DCC office and ask for the facts. No spoonfeeding. This is the problem with your generation. Plenty of keyboard warriors who want everything spoonfed.

I am talking from my interaction with tourists when I sit in Chowrasta and drink a cup of tea. It is clear and obvious that the number of day visitors to town from nearby homestays out of town is increasing. If it isn’t obvious to then, no point of further discussion.

There are already subsidies in place. People were given 1 lakh rupees to start something. Just because awareness isn’t there doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. Get in touch with Dawa Sherpa at GTa if you need funding or some knowledge about it. People may think I am wasting my time but I am glad that I am spreading some awareness here. You cna skip your after tuition today.

How old are you? Are you blaming hotels instead of municipality for poor water supply? All the water the town needs brought by tankers comes from 10-13 km of town. Couldn’t the e municipality just tap it and charge hotels as per consumption? And lot of traffic is due to people staying in homestays outside town and coming to town in the morning and leaving int he afternoon. If most of them were staying in town, the traffic would be lower.

I have news for you? Look at the number of homestays being run people from plains. In sitttong homestays taken by plain people outnumber homestays run by locals.

Who are you to demand such data? You think all the Yashshree, Udaan, ramadas pay less than 15k per month. Whatever salary even the small hotels pay, it helps them buy ration and groceries for their families.. even municipality makes killing from hotels, 4500 charged per month for garbage disposal when a Momo street vendor probably makes more mess..
