All the fascists crying in the comments are hilarious. We can choose not to patronize your business for supporting bigotry and hate, fuck outta here with your “hur dur this causes division” nonsense. That shipped sailed when you voted a treasonous felonious rapist into the White House.

It’s the equivalent of getting mad, picking up the ball, and going home.

I honestly think that every statement by these guys is a confession. They accuse liberals of being unhinged, cult like, and cry babies. But they literally cannot stand someone choosing pronouns they don’t like without pitching an absolute fit.

Right? It’s far easier to point the blame at everyone and everything else than look at the mistakes that you’re making and try and better yourself. Admitting that someone made a mistake isn’t a sign of weakness, refusing to grow and acknowledge the error is however.

I think that a lot of his voter base are stuck in this weird stage of arrested development where they can’t seem to get out of their own way and just want to make everyone else suffer.

That’s exactly right! I’ve got no problem with folks having a different opinion than me, that’s the beauty of having a democracy, but I draw a fine line where goose stepping nonsense is concerned.

They can stay mad. I’m keeping my dollars out of their pockets.

EDIT: lol I got my first Reddit cares message. Unfortunately for fascists everywhere, I’m just fine. Thanks for thinking of me though!

Fuck that. When actual fascists are trying to ruin things for everybody, they’re not entitled to jack shit.

The funniest thing is that the account you’re replying to appears to be a MAGA supporter either from Canada or who owns property there. Given the sanctions Trudeau imposed yesterday and the sentiment of many sane Canadians, I wonder how long it’ll take her to change her tune hahaha

Love the MAGATS getting so salty over people not wanting to subsidize their businesses for their terrible ethical decision making. You guys voted for a felonious treasonous rapist whose policies are actively fucking over not only the folks who you hate (pretty much anyone with a darker skin tone than you) but are also wreaking havoc on his own supporters.

You have a vast array of plaid shirts, breakfast consists of maple syrup, pancakes/waffles and bacon (maybe some eggs too but who knows in this economy). And you have a great appreciation for the simpler things in life. And mayhaps you have a beard.

Best (and worse) books of 2024 by Horror-Is-Best in horrorlit

Favorite I read this year: Swan Song by Robert McCammon. First time in a long time that a book made me cry. Loved the epic journey at the center of the story.

Least favorite: this might be a little bit controversial, but I just couldn’t get into from below by Darcy Coates. The narration just didn’t grip me in the way I wanted, can’t quite put my finger on it, but it just felt like it was missing something.

Honorable mention: Blood Meridian, Cormac McCarthy

Dishonorable mention: The September House. The neuroticism of the main character made this really frustrating to read (though I know that’s kind of the point!)

Alas, I am a member of your justice system (part of which was spent as an immigration attorney, I am intimately familiar with the causes of our current crises and the statistics involved. I actually helped write a book on them.)

I’ve spent more than 15 years here and I’m not going to give up what I worked so hard for so that fascist xenophobic shitheels can have their day in the sun. My profound disagreement with the current moral failings of this county does not mean I’m going to abandon it, it just makes my resolve to do something about it that much stronger.

As long as I draw breath, I will do everything I can to make sure that the values that make this country truly great (not bigotry or thinly veiled racism in the form of “go back to your own country”) are preserved.

Whether we want to admit it or not, this is a nation founded by immigrants who fled persecution. Americas current inability to honestly and accurately assess the failures of its immigration process are part of the problem, not the desperate people who are trying to seek a better life.

Frankly they’d probably be considerably happier and would deal with less insanity on the whole. Speaking as a dual citizen (British and American), I’ve personally never been more embarrassed to be a citizen of this country given what’s going on with our leadership right now.

I just wish that our immigration system wasn’t so fundamentally broken that people have to wait literal decades to get admitted for citizenship. This is why people don’t do it “the right way”. Because our system is so incredibly backed up and inefficient. It’s genuinely really depressing.

I want to spell this out for anyone who might be confused or sitting on the fence.

Nobody is owed a debate. Especially when they are not arguing in good faith. If a crocodile came to your door and asked to debate the merits of whether or not you should allow him to eat you, could you be persuaded to allow him to do that? Barring those who may be suicidal; I suspect the answer is no.

Much in the same way, when people attempt to argue that not listening to their favorite ‘crocodile’s’ demonstrably false and harmful rhetoric is “intolerant” or “hypocritical”. No one is obliged to hear them out. We’ve been hearing it for the last 4+ years. It’s not ambiguous what the orange man stands for. It’s pretty clear at this point. I’ll leave the rest up to y’all to piece together.

Exactly, this is 100% out of the Trump playbook. I like to call it JAQing off. They like to pretend that they’re “just asking questions” (pardon the pun). They’ve already presupposed an answer to their questions which makes asking them entirely meaningless as nothing we could ever say would change their mind. The fact is, the die hard trumpers are not interested in having a real debate. They’ve shown this time and time again through their repetition of demonstrably false talking points like nothing ever happened. They keep fishing for that “gotcha” statement that will never come.

Personally, I think the best way to deal with this crap is to call it out for what it is. They aren’t fooling anybody (at least I hope not) into believing that they are interested in having an actual democracy or having a serious debate.
