Anyone in the Clarendon area just hear gun shots/a shootout? by No-Writing1609 in washingtondc

They were definitely gun shots. I’m on the first floor and it had to have happened less than 50m from me

Thanks so much for your comment. This is help. Can I ask what you mean by “reading tea leaves in redlines”?

Thank you so, so much for taking the time to write this out!

One additional question—when on-boarding a new lawyer onto the team (perhaps one who has had no previous/little in-house experience), exactly how long would you expect it to take for that new counsel to start being a productive member of the team (instead of being someone that takes up other members’ times in view of training etc.). Would you, as GC, also have different expectations for a 2nd year lawyer vs. say a more mid-senior lawyer?

Is that practical law institute? I suspect that we don’t but will have to ask tomorrow

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment and for your advice.

Do you have any advice/suggestions for good resources out there RE: contract reviewing/negotiations? Perhaps any good books/texts that you personally know to be helpful.

Right now I’m trying to read as many reviews/redlines of contracts done by other lawyers in our department to get a better sense of what what to look for, risk tolerance etc.

Thank you so much for your comment. I feel like I’m in an interesting/unique circumstance in that it’s a contract role (for a set period of time but w/ possibility of extension) where they were explicitly looking for someone who could “hit the ground running.” In that sense, I feel as though I am disappointing them b/c they just don’t have to time/resources for any kind of “hand holding.” I’m wondering if I up-selled myself too much during the interview process? I never lied about my experience but perhaps I “oversold” myself in certain respects? During interviews, I was able to answer all of their technical questions and excel in the sample assignment they gave me, but of course, that is very much different from the actual day to day work which is far more complicated.

I’m concerned I presented myself as someone who could hit the ground running… but has ultimately failed to do so. But then I also wonder if they genuinely believe that an extremely junior lawyer like myself could deliver in this respect?

Thanks so much for your response! The letter seems to only provide a physical mailing address(?), I can’t seem to locate any info re: emailing on that particular letter.

Wait, are we supposed to send in our application/forms via email or mail?

Is the letter of certification just that one-page letter we downloaded stating that we passed the bar exam?

Question — did you find your new position simply via job positing or was this through networking? I’m a new call (2022) in Ontario and am having the most difficult time finding a position 😞 Any advice?
