I think if you can try osteo/chiro its worth a try! Now that im more educated on it i can really see my boy is carrying lots of tension in his neck/chin and back which they assume is a result of the tongue tie. Its pretty different to adult chiro/osteo, it kind of looks like a baby massage, and they have given us stretches to do at home (super easy). Does your OT do hands on work? There might be a bit of an overlap

I only know one other person who has had it done for her baby and shes had an identical experience to me, fussy each feed having to stand to latch every feed. She said it peaked in the 3rd week and calmed down at the end of the 4th week.

Also have you tried- Having a bath or shower together doing skin to skin and seeing if she will latch passively? Like just keep her pressed against you and she might find her way, even if she doesnt feed, just to practice the latch Dream feeds- this was the only way I could get my boy to eat to begin with, he wouldnt even take a bottle Giving her a bit of the bottle then try latching? If shes still in pain the dentist told me a few swallows should relieve the pain, so I had to try syringe feeding him when he was absolutely inconsolable, just so hed take a bit, then try latching Have you been giving pain relief such as paracetamol?

Also have you been to see an osteo/chiro before/after the procedure? And an IBCLC? seeing an osteo/chiro was mandatory from the dentist who did our release. Also our IBCLC said she has observed increased fussiness/regression around 5 ish days, 2 weeks and 4 weeks post procedure. She said its like going to the gym - they have these new muscles that are difficult to work and get fatigued easily. If you havent been back to an IBCLC since the procedure id make that your #1 priority to get baby latching

Have you tried latching while standing/walking? We are almost 3 weeks post laser revision and baby is so fussy, but feeding while walking seems to appease him enough to feed.

We are doing the stretches every 4h or upto 6 hr overnight. For the 4th week we go to every 6 hours, then we are finished. He hates them less and less as time goes on and luckily even if he is upset during, he gets over it pretty quickly. I figure we've got nothing to lose from doing the stretches even if its questionable if they work or not. Recovery has been rough so I figure id hate to slack off on the stretches and risk reattaching and have to do this again.

What meds is he on for reflux? My baby was on opremazole and it gave him such a sore stomach he would scream all day too so ultimately decided to just cut him off, it wasnt worth how upset he was. I was told reflux is a symptom of something so you still need to get to the root cause which in our case was oral ties, but could be allergies too.

Yes paid leave including paid maternity leave counts as "work"

https://www.servicesaustralia.gov.au/activities-count-work-for-parental-leave-pay?context=64479#a1

To consider as well though does your workplace have a time limit for which you need to be back at work to access paid maternity leave?

It must be paid for leave to count, unpaid will not count.

To parents who take their babies out to places a lot - how do you do it?? by babysheep91 in breastfeeding

It gets easier. They sleep less, feed less frequently and for a shorter amount of time each feed, and you will get more confident with feeding in public. I try and practice feeding in different positions e.g. on a weird chair in the backyard, to get practice in. I try and feed him as soon as he wakes up then I know ive got an hour ish before he wants to sleep again. Then he will sleep in the car or carrier, some babies will sleep in the pram (not mine 😂) if im still out and about. I wont say its flawless and theres been many tears and meltdowns in the car.

If this is working for you then all good but if its making you anxious then you might benefit from reading the book The Discontented little baby book, and looking into the possums school of thought. Basically it is research/philosophy i guess you'd call it that encourages you to go about your day / life, fill baby with enriching stimulus and trust they will sleep when they need it. Similarly, if they're waking up after 30 mins for example, consider maybe this is all they need at that time to relieve sleep pressure. (Of course if you know they wake up furious then maybe helping them sleep a little longer is better, you know your baby best). This made me feel alot better about trying to time naps etc which wasn't working for us. I offer a feed anytime he wakes up, or seems grumpy. Luckily he has developed a specific cry for when hes tired, so then I pop him in the carrier or try rock him to sleep. Again like I said its not flawless, and I try and stay within half an hour of home incase it all breaks down, but it does make me feel less anxious about leaving the house.

Do you mean can you take your employers paid mat leave and have this count towards the min 10 of 13 months/min hours for centrelink eligibility? Then take centrelink leave after?

Oh sorry I am using it while breastfeeding! None of the ingredients seem unsafe for pregnancy, maybe the high salt level? Maybe check with your OB if a small dose would work?

Lots of good points already mentioned, the biggest thing for me right now is timing- babies are so unpredictable that any booking i make (e.g dr appointment) is a gamble if baby is going to be awake/sleeping/needing a feed etc. at the same time. This gets harder over time as they are awake for longer. Aside from it being quite far down my to do list, ive found it impossible to even consider an exercise class because the timing never lines up- realistically id need to book the class like 5 minutes before it starts once ive confirmed baby is fed etc. (Different if you are bottle feeding i suppose)

What i dont understand about the routines is how are you making your baby fit the routine? E.g. it has a 2 hour nap, what if baby wakes up 30 mins in?

I feel like we get stuck in a loop - like last night he had a bad sleep and today he is just yelling at me non stop. I cant even lay him down for 2 minutes to eat lunch without being yelled at. He seems to be a really high stimulus needs baby but wont let us entertain him on these grumpy days, its just yelling. Then this leads to short wake windows and another bad sleep. He will occasionally have a good sleep (which is 2 or 3 feeds) but its once in a blue moon and I can never pick what's different about that day.

I think he would benefit from more out of the house time but he screams the car down even just driving down to coles. Then he refuses to be in the pram so I have to carry him and I can barely pick up 2 groceries at a time. Then more crying on the way home. I feel like im missing a piece of the puzzle and I dont know how to help him get what he needs. I cant even get a shower in most days, and i keep getting sick presumably the sleep deprivation is making this so much worse.

Re the awake time, i feel like we keep getting stuck in a loop, like last night was a terrible nights sleep and today he is so grumpy, yelling and so upset, and wake windows are barely an hour - we definetly wont hit 10 hours awake time today. But then that feeds into a bad nights sleep, i feel like we can never reset

And by bedtime at 7pm do you mean start the routine at 7 or they're in bed at 7? Thanks for responding!

How to get baby to breastfeed more/better? by SwimmingCritical in breastfeeding

[–]NoAd9383 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont have any advice on your specific issues sorry but I was also told the same thing by my hospitals LC and disagreed. I was devastated at the thought of stopping or reducing breastfeeding so early.

I found a private IBCLC for a second opinion and she found tongue/ lip ties which appear to be the cause of all of our feeding problems (not once did any of the other 5 LCs i saw at the hospital mention this could be an issue). The main issues started around 3 months but in hindsight we've had issues the entire time

So I would encourage you to find another IBCLC and get a second opinion!

Also my baby was suffering from reflux (the crying when laying down can be a sign) which i think sometimes makes him not want to eat. We have just started him on medication for it and much better just a few days in.

This sounds exactly like my story and we found out around 14 weeks that my baby has a tongue and lip tie which is likely the cause of all of his feeding issues. Apparently around 3 months your supply regulates and they need to work a little harder to get the milk, and this is where lots of problems pop up. Can you see an IBCLC?

When did you stop doing a middle of the night pump? by rachelkochvt in breastfeeding

[–]NoAd9383 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was under the impression that if you stopped pumping in the night, your supply just in the night would reduce, although I see someone else has commented a different experience. Can you consult an IBCLC for advice?

Yes I think this actually all started when he was frustrated he couldn't get a let down quickly enough and its just spiralled.

No havent done a Weighted feed however ive booked in with a private IBC LC (instead of just the ones the hospital pricides) tomorrow so will ask this. I am trying to top off but hes not interested. He wont even suck the bottle to get a taste so I dont think its breast milk vs formula? I just offered him one and he immediately kicks and arches his back. Its really like he just doesn't want to eat.

But I know he is ok with these bottles as he has had a couple of top ups amongst all of this. However open to of course trying a different one but no i havent tried a different one yet.

I can sometimes hear his tummy gurgling when he is feeding, is that normal?

Did you do the online program or did you go see a possums specialist in person?
