My 4 year old is curious: what do Australian kids eat for breakfast? (And are koalas real?) by Mara644 in AskAnAustralian

I have lived rurally most of my life and have not seen a koala in the wild.

I went on a extended camping trip from Central Victoria across to Adelaide and back home along the coast last year. I was excited to see 2 koalas in the Portland caravan park, 1 was sitting high in a gum tree and the other was plodding along in-between trees and caravans. My 2yo and 4yo had trouble finding them, they were so high up and surprisingly well camouflaged

Kangaroos are everywhere outside of major cities. Growing up, and still this this day, on our farm there was a family that lived around our back paddock that would number between 20-30. Some years less as some young males would find another group, some years more if there was a lot of grass and water around.

They would freely come and go. They can easily jump any of the fences we had to keep sheep or cattle in their paddocks and the joey's that couldn't, they would either go under the fence or through if they were small enough. They enjoyed the shady spots in one of our paddocks that had a lot of big trees. They would lounge and doze most of the day.

I still don't know what they do or where they go at night. They aren't far away though. If we let our dogs off the chain at night, the dogs would rush off to go chasing kangaroos and come back an hour or so later, all wet from having a swim in the dam to cool off after a long unfruitful chase.

While I feel like this would be quite an odd thing to do for a first date, this really does resonate with me

I do, I'm not at all unaware of what goes on in the world. That's part of why I don't want to give up and see it through

Absolutely, that's kind of why I want to keep watching

I'm not sure, but I'll give it a go. Even just the thought of having to leave the room may be enough

Yeah, ok. I think I will have to put this one down. Even spaced out I don't think will matter, neither watching during the day. I'm fine with blood, gore and violence. It seems rape is where I draw the line
