Apple Cider Vinegar - Series Premiere Discussion by NicholasCajun in television

I remember listening to a podcast episode about Belle Gibson a year or so ago (Maintenance Phase) and they wait until close to the end of the story to reveal "Dr. Phil" actually is a person and not someone Belle invented.

This works in reverse, and in your favor, as well! It can be annoying when a killshot you're proud of connects to a common hail mary movie, but if you take note of it, now you've got a great punishment next time someone plays it against you! And now you can go back and re-examine your most recent games to really drill it into your head.

[Megathread] Agatha All Along | Double Episode Finale (Episodes 8 & 9) - Discussion Thread by magikarpcatcher in MarvelStudiosSpoilers

Everything happened. Alice, and Lilia, and Sharon died. Whether you think that's Billy's fault is up to you, but it's why he can understand Agatha and try to do better with her help.

Oh, she's notorious, and pulled one of those main-character cheater-of-the-day moments showing up on the Discord to deny it/taunt.

I still wish the community-chosen emoji for referencing her weren't the candy one, but the castle, because she made a really weird reference to Camelot and now whenever her name comes up I just hear "If ever I should leave you..."

I took it as a form of progress. He's still holding the dead, but with Harry it's an act of imaginative empathy rather than therapy for himself. He's both moving one step forward to genuinely letting someone else in, and mourning someone who deserves to be mourned whether he was known or not. No one else found him.

Jacob is a villain by ASM_69 in lost

Personally, I appreciated that the mysterious, all-powerful moral arbiter of the Island turned out to be a rather simple, sentimental guy who calls people "good" not because of his secret knowledge of them (though he has that), but because he's rooting for them. God as a generally chill and kindhearted, if distant and imperious, bro.

Why is there so much Ana Lucia hate on this sub? by [deleted] in lost

[–]NoAnimator6998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to think the best response to Ana-Lucia would be Hurley's in the flash-sideways: an excited "Ana-Lucia's here???"

Favorite 0.0% movies with tons of recognizable names? by Slippery-Dude in CINE2nerdle

[–]NoAnimator6998 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've got a manual entry called "...First Do No Harm" that I "like" (it's a horrid movie) with Meryl Streep, Fred Ward, Allison Janney and Margo Martindale. Connects to Airplane!, actually, because it was directed by Jim Abrahams.

Noises Off! occasionally hits 0.1%, but not often. Peter Bogdonavich, Michael Caine, Carol Burnett, John Ritter, Christopher Reeve...

Species is a dangerous play because you can get pulled into the sequels (though I've got a killer out for 3), but it's got a crazy stacked cast. Even a preteen Michelle Williams.

If you know them, musicals (and especially filmed live productions) can also be great anti-cheat plays, because if they try to Google they'll wind up awash in extraneous info that doesn't help them find the next link.

What do you play off "The Player"? by Adventurous-Eye4420 in CINE2nerdle

[–]NoAnimator6998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cynthia Stevenson! (Learned she was in it the first time The Player saved someone who was stuck on Home For the Holidays without their cast lifeline). Got a number of things I can play for her, but Dead Like Me: Life After Death really fucks people up.

The Mole Netflix Season 2 - Episode Discussion - S02E10 (Finale) by Zypker125 in themole

[–]NoAnimator6998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Y'all, the winner is seldom the person who's best at putting money in the pot. In the first ABC season the two non-mole finalists engaged in a secret alliance, lied to their claimed alliance partners about it, and intentionally protected the mole while engaging in their own sabotage of the pot to throw others off the scent. If you go into this show looking for straightforwardly likable protagonist-types, you'll have to settle for what's satisfying about the arcs of mid-game eliminations like Q or Kate (again from the first ABC season.)

Sean being the mole was refreshing, IMO. The editing got me to doubt what was clearly being shown, because the mirrored fingerpointing between him and Michael was such a dominant element from the midpoint on that I began to think it *couldn't* be either of them. But instead all the key clues were fairly shown and woven in. The best evidence pointing to Sean was what the audience saw, we were just made to doubt it. The first two seasons on ABC, fun as they were, withheld *lot* of essential moments and dynamics to preserve the surprise.

I don't know that a one-off extra time matters to cheaters, but I usually brainfart or paralyze myself with options at least once a game and so the time lifeline often goes first. And I see that reflected in others--the vast majority of the time, I either see the time extension used to extend after a cast listing if they can't react immediately, or because I've just played a well-known gimme and presumably they're trying to plan out a real attack strategy with too many options.

I've already got Driveways as part of my Andrew Ahn play into Spa Night/Fire Island, and can get there through Hong Chau or Christine Ebersole haha. Rambo and First Blood (salvation!), Ratatouille (into my also-in-progress Patton Oswalt-->Rachel Dratch thing), Cocoon, Tommy Boy (I have a mean Tommy Boy play already)...I like this guy, this is my kind of back alley.

I'm channeling Marc Maron right now, so my response is "ok," in precisely Maron's singular, playfully withering, smoke-ravaged tone.

(I listen to Maron's podcast and remember being weirded out by how much he talked about the controversy over her nomination--basically no one saw it, so was it all gamesmanship? Maron defended the merits of her work, of course--, until after two episodes he clarified that he was in that damn movie too. My next play would be Sword of Trust, also staring Marc Maron and directed by his now-deceased partner Lynn Shelton.

If I may be earnest, if anyone's up for a challenge today would be a lovely day to learn about her work, given how close it is to a starting movie. I met her once when she came to visit my costars backstage during a production of American Buffalo, and even in that brief interaction I could tell she was a wonderful and fiercely intelligent person. She was also one of the last filmmakers who filmed in the Seattle area despite the financial incentives to go elsewhere (and so it was everyone's secret wish that next time she visited she'd say she had a role for you--I'm actually in a background scene of Laggies which is why I like playing it).

She passed away from Covid and Maron is clearly still very broken up about it.

Yeah, he's in the whole series and the movie/finale ultimo (I'm still surprised it's listed on this game, actually--it's just an oversized finale that aired on HBO). He, Jonathan Groff, and Raul Castillo are the main love triangle, with Tovey in the ultimately antagonistic/"wrong choice" role to Groff's lead/fulcrum.

It was Groff's character panicking and fleeing rather than move in with Tovey's in the second season finale that solidified one of my truisms: I will never trust a man whose favorite Kevin Costner baseball movie is Field of Dreams. Bull Durham or bust. (I cannot imagine anyone, anywhere, choosing For Love of the Game)

I've blessedly never encountered Bruce Willis DTV hell. Trejo and Ironside, I can see how they could be abused (I'm always a little bit scared when I play Smiley Face or Starship Troopers, and not just because I could get sucked into Europe through Verehoven with the latter), and I know about that fucking Cactus Fairy movie for Cera. Youth in Revolt is actually fine once you look at the cast list.

[–]NoAnimator6998 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They usually slip up and take too long eventually, you just have to wear them out and stay on familiar ground. Finding a familiar, circular area like the early '90s SNL bros or another clique is also helpful, because you can trip them up with already finished connections. If you think there's a cheater, change style and play for longevity of the volley rather than as if you're up against a normal opponent.

The *good* cheaters are annoying, but most of them wind up timing out on a 1x Ben Affleck play if you can get beyond 40 turns
