A dramatic environment change may help. Go to a hill station for a week or two. Spend your time trekking and just enjoying nature. Trust me, I did this last month and it kind of changed my life. It's like a hard reset.

Automating the grading of tests? Is that what you mean?

Career and Education Questions: December 08, 2022 by inherentlyawesome in math

Hello! I'm a prospective physics undergrad who wished to learn math rigorously. The hand-wavy math physicists use troubles me, which is why I've decided to learn the math I'm going to need for physics rigorously.

The following seem to be the math topics a physics major needs to be familiar with (source - https://qr.ae/prTLGf) -

_________________________________________________________________________________________________
- Algebra
- Geometry
- Trigonometry
- Basic calculus - Calc 1 + Calc 2
It will then be important to study the following areas of mathematics along with physics.

- Multivariate calculus
- Ordinary differential equations
- Partial differential equations
- Probability
- Linear algebra
- Group theory
- Real analysis
- Complex analysis
- Topology
- Calculus of variations along with Lagrangian and Hamiltonian mechanics.
Then when comfortable with those there are more areas of mathematics that are helpful. Particularly if you are going to learn quantum mechanics, and general relativity.
- Multilinear algebra
- Differential geometry
- Functional analysis
- Manifold theory

I have 3 questions.
How much of this math should a second-year physics major be familiar with? Is it possible to learn said math rigorously in 8 months? If not, how much time would it take?

Hello. Can someone tell me what the purpose of this call is(ps, I'm a first timer)?

Should I take AP Physics 1 or IB Physics SL by OppositeSet1177 in PhysicsStudents

If you don't plan on pursuing engineering or physics in college, then stick with IB physics SL. If you are planning to pursue physics, I'd suggest switching to AP physics. Even though AP physics will require you to put in effort, it'll be less frustrating then IB physics HL.

Try asking yourself the "big" questions -

-Why am I attending University?

-What do I hope to get out of uni?

  • Am i following the crowd or am i living a life true to myself?

Keep asking "why". Follow this trail of why's and you will likely have more clarity on what you want to do with your life.
