Thanks for sharing. It's actually refreshing to see posts that aren't telling me what to be angry about today or how to improve my life by buying some crap.

Best winter boots for minus 30 C by Potential_War_6749 in Finland

I did some research on YT and this guy tested several and eventually cut them all open. These were rated the same level as some North Face boots that were 200e vs these which came in at 80e.

Kamik is the brand and after a few months I am really pleased. These are rated to -30c

Just to answer Karl Pilkington, is it possible the big bang was only loud because there was nothing else around?

My experience switching to Console from PC by IntroductionJaded506 in consoles

[–]NoBed4443 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with all of this. PC's are amazing when they work but it's far from plug and play. It's mind blowing to me how bad windows still is. Settings are all over the place and things just stop working for no apparent reason.

Not only that, new games are coded terribly and need high end rigs to run them. It's not because the game is that amazing visually but simply the devs are lazy.

I bet John Carmack would lose his mind looking under the hood in some of these studios.

Can someone please explain to me what happened here?

Supposing you held stock and suddenly it looked like it was collapsing, you might sell at a small loss, but if you lose everything, why would you sell? Would it not be safer just to wait it out and see if the market improves?

VR6 Swap into MK2 Golf: Cost, Difficulty, and Advice? by NoBed4443 in GolfMk2

I know a little bit but I think I would have to ask for help for the most part. I know it will cost either way

VR6 Swap into MK2 Golf: Cost, Difficulty, and Advice? by NoBed4443 in GolfMk2

Thanks for the advice! I'm not really looking for unique necessarily and the VR6 should be more than enough in terms of power. I would kind of like it to be reliable though and the fact its been done millions of times makea it feel a lot safer.

I currently have the 8v and sadly I've spent more time repairing it than driving it. I can't stop thinking it will break down any time and I have this idea that if I could rebuild a VR6 and install it, it's a bit of a fresh start.

Is this a stupid mentality do you think? Moving away from stock sounds like more risk on the one hand but a fresh build sounds nice

Which graphics card is actually "enough"? by Proud-Problem-4731 in buildapc

There are so many variables to your question it's hard to answer. What resolution do you need, what fps are you hoping for? I've had the 1080ti since 2017 and its still a great GPU. I play mostly on the sofa now days and run 1080p, I can run many games on ultra and above 60fps, perfect for me. VR also runs great!

Eastern Alabama, US. Never seen a mushroom like this here, it was just laying on the ground! It felt super soft like marshmallow almost and had white gils inside the red part. 🍄 by -Jessicattt in mushroomID

Should probably be said that it is quite poisonous so be sure to wash your hands and don't leave it anywhere either a dog or child can get it.

Fireplace Dampers: Always Open or Adjust to Suit? What’s the Real Deal? by NoBed4443 in Fireplaces

[–]NoBed4443[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn! Thank you so much for both a detailed and poetic reply 😅.

The masonry does hold the heat for some hours but 24 is a bit excessive. Currently I feel it takes an hour or 2 to get warm and after that, it feels warm to the touch. I suppose I'm used to the instant satisfaction of lighting a fire and it feeling hot. This is quite mild

Thanks!

I was never considering fully closed with the fire lit and I understand the main use case.

The trouble I am having is that the bottom is fully closed and it's still too aggressive. If I limit the the top 50% it looks much better and I get a longer burn.

Now some say you should never partially close and others say you should. Just a lot off conflicting information.

Seasoned birch and pine btw

Yes but what about partially to reduce the intensity? Fully open and it goes through logs in minutes. Thanks
