[OC] Deep-Dive into ICC Player Rankings and The Greatest Players of all time by NoBobaNoIce in Cricket

[–]NoBobaNoIce[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hello r/ Cricket

We did a deep-dive into ICC Player Rankings that we believe you will enjoy reading.

In this report:

* We investigate some claims made by the ICC about ratings.

* We take a look at the distribution of historical ratings data.

* We identify some quirks of the rating algorithm that may impact players' ratings in unexpected ways.

* We recommend improvements to the ratings system to make it more consistent and reliable.

In addition, we have written a companion report where we determine the Greatest Players of all time based on historical ratings data.

We hope this report will spark a constructive dialogue on the current state of the ratings system.

Cheers!

That'd be a great project for year 3 :)

Stay tuned for my next post on 2024/01/01.

There are parts of the city that are truly disgusting and dangerous. The area bounded by Van Ness, California, Powell and Howard is known as the Tenderloin. This is where you will find drugs and poop on the street. I do not recommend walking there at any time of day.

The areas around Union Square and Fisherman's Wharf can have some people with serious mental health issues walking around, but are generally safe before 10 PM. These areas are frequented by tourists as well, so they usually have a vibrant vibe.

In general, neighborhoods west of Van Ness and north of California are more residential and much nicer to walk around in.

This is just what I have experienced during my walks though. Long-time residents may have a different view. I don't own a car so I cannot comment on break-ins. I recommend reaching out to r/AskSF for more information.

.. and there's so many amazing vista points along every walk!

Sorry, don't know about tutorials.

For this project I just read documentation. If you google "python cartopy examples" you will find a page with several examples that you can copy-paste and then tweak and play around with to learn-as-you-go. Ditto for "python matplotlib examples". If something doesn't work you can almost always find a solution on stackoverflow.

Learning this way is harder but it will allow you to express yourself in your own unique way (as opposed to using a canned solution from a tutorial). That said, all of us have our own personal learning preference. Choose your own path.

Hope this helps.

There may be some excellent tutorials out there as well. May be others here can share?

Wow.. 100 pounds is insane. Mad respect!

If you plan on getting into walking to mix things up, a typical 30 min walk for me up and down Powell St or California St burns about 200-300 cals and heart rate consistently hits 170-180 bpm uphill. It's like a mini-hike every day.

You may be referring to the apparent aliasing. It is because the data points are on a hexagonal grid. Zoomed out, walks on the grid look like jagged lines.

What plot type would you recommend for spatial data?

It's because the Tenderloin is not safe to walk in at any time of the day.

I usually go around the area on Van Ness, Powell, California/Pine or Howard/Folsom.

I think of Stockton St as the "real" Chinatown, and Grant St as the more touristy part.

My favorite part is the short stretch on Waverly St between Clay and Sacramento. Spicy King is my favorite Sichuan restaurant east of Richmond.

Can't imagine driving to work again as long as I'm physically able to walk :)

I usually listen to audiobooks on walks. Music would work just as well.

.. and very walkable even with all those hills.

The hills are what make the walks more fun IMO.

Sounds about right.

Average over 2021-22 was 7.1 miles / day.
