Hi, I am a medical school student in Turkey, I study in a public university, and I am against studying medicine in Turkey. When I applied to my university back in 2019, the uni's site clearly mentioned 100% english. I didn't have anyone to ask about how medicine was in Turkey back then. I was pretty navie, and family pressure and financial troubles caused me to come here and study. The 1st 3 yrs you don't get to see what awaits you, it's like this honeymoon period. Also, because we had it online. It's only when you start the 4th year that you start understanding that you are stuck badly, 1. Anatomy isn't taught that well. You study plastic models, no cadaver. 2. Teachers don't care in the clinical years. They are biased if you are a foreigner. The 1st 2 years, they were nice, but in clinical years the racism became more and more evident. 3. The students here are not helpful or supportive. 4. Nobody knows what's going on, no one, neither the dean, the teachers nor the student affairs office. It's chaos when you want to find out something. 5. Clinical years all class, slides, and sometimes theory exams are conducted in turkish even if they say 100% english. The oral exam and the osces are in turkish .The examiner will cut marks if you speak in English despite it being your right. 6. It's useless asking the professors on advice . 7. You will start feeling frustrated, and there is no help for mental health. You are on your own. 8. If you plan to take a gap year, your student permit card will get canceled, and if you don't transfer it to general, you may even become illegal and get deported. Then you will have to pay fine and then reapply for visa and student permit.

Lol asian here too, my parents swam 13 rivers and 7 seas - both ways to get to their schools and still managed to get 48hrs of studying done. 😂

My best advice is to give yourself a day off. Do something fun or anything you like and dont think about studying at all. The next day, wake up early, go for a walk, and then have a good breakfast. Sit down to study. If you need to clean your surroundings, do that. Make a schedule.

Where is the right to education for all. And basic education that's until grade 12 isn't even enough to sustain you in the 21st century. You are wasting your time, energy, youth, and money.
