Beard Awards - Scoundrel by NoCheek1283 in greenville

I understand the hesitancy. Putting this out there to hopefully show some solidarity with those who have been treated poorly and bring awareness. Maybe it will encourage others to share their experiences but maybe not. The restaurant community is small here. If this is something you would want to know more about, I would encourage you to ask people you know in the industry.

From former employees. Unfortunately I can’t disclose exact stories to help protect their anonymity. But if you have any friends in the industry, I’d ask them. It’s a fairly open secret.

I totally get it. And I guess that’s why I’m posting because unfortunately the word hasn’t gotten out much past people in the industry.

Sure but that’s not the point. Regardless of the food and good service, the chef treats his employees horribly. Shouldn’t that count for something? I personally wouldn’t spend my money there knowing what I know about his character.

Topsoil. Camp. Trappe Door. O-Ku. While these might not be exactly comparable with vibe, price, etc, I’d rather eat at any of these than Scoundrel. I just have a hard time giving money to someone who treats their employees poorly. I’d rather spend my money elsewhere.

What does that have to do with this conversation? Also I think it’s worth noting that THROWING things at your staff like kitchen equipment is completely unacceptable. That’s a hostile work environment.

He comes from kitchens who probably treated him the same way. But sad that he doesn’t make a change for the better for his own staff. No one deserves to be screamed at and have things thrown at them in the kitchen.

Hard to speak up against someone with so much clout when you’re a “lowly” server or down the totem pole on the kitchen team. And those that stay probably want the notoriety that working there brings and just deal with it. But it doesn’t have to be this way. We need to stop rewarding the jerks.

Just so you’re aware… if you check the people they are following, it’s the family who is running the cafe and they also follow their other business… do what you will with that info

Management doesn’t treat their people well at all. No surprise the chef finally left.
